I'd like to post something and hopefully open up this discussion with the intent to improve this site for all users. I would like to ask people who post on this thread to avoid childish name-calling, ad hominem arguments, and general not-niceness. I'm also notattempting to establish a moral high ground. Hopefully we can all open up some thoughtful conversation!

Here's my food for thought:
A thing that has been on my mind for a while now is the pictures that some use as avatars here on AZ. There are a few people on here that use borderline pornographic pictures of women as their avatar. My question is whether or not this is conducive to a friendly environment for all pool aficionado's. Personally, these images don't bother me, but it's awkward at times when a friend or girlfriend see's me scroll through a post and there's a half naked woman on a pool table...

I'm not posting this for me though. Think of how many female pool players that might not want to engage in buying, selling, or discussing pool in general due to images on this forum. I want to be clear that my personal stance is not one of regulation and censorship... I don't believe in controlling anyone personal experssion, I just want to start this discussion and maybe it will lead to some good.

It looks like you usually just post in the" For sale" section and don't really enter into any discussions. Did someone attack you or something that brought this on? Actually, these kinds of discussions are the least productive of all. This is a pool site, lets keep it about pool here and not these side distractions that have nothing to do with pool. If you have a complaint just address it to the moderator and they will see if it has merit. No need for an open discussion thread that I can promise you will just go south in no time anyway.

Pool is a male dominated sport, and there is a large portion of men (and maybe some women) who enjoy those pictures. This is a male dominated forum, and I believe would stay that way even if all of the offended readers joined right now.

There is an option to turn off the avatars completely.

I understand your point, maybe the site owners feel they attract and retain more users this way then without?

This is a forum populated by adult pool players. Children have no place here.
We have, for a very long time. been allowed to pretty much say and do as we please until one of the moderators draws a line in the sand with his big toe, and that line gets crossed.
We don't need to change a thing. :)

I agree with what the senile guy with the rickity old boat said.

I think we should use more ethnic and racial slurs.

All kinds of people play pool. Why shouldn't we insult them all?

I have not been attacked by anyone. I was simply curious to see peoples opinions...

If this is the wrong forum, i'd be happy to move it to the non-pool related section. I figured it had to do with the pool community though.

You are 100% right. There are no children here. In addition, if the moderators don't deem certain things appropriate, it's their right to edit or censor those things. I think that's the way it should be seeing as they own the site. My intent was not to start a discussion on who has what right to post what. ----->It's about whether or not people here think what I've brought up affects the interest and participation of (mainly) female pool players.

you really should have done a search. this has been discussed to death and the outcome is..... nothing. every time. the reality is if the picture is bad enough it gets yanked by the mods.
i'm sure you thought you were trying to elevate the level of discourse here, but really you just killed the amount of time it took you to wright the post.
you can't get that time back

I'm sure by now with all the other comments that have been posted you can tell what the mentality of some people here is. Personaly I commend your post. I never liked it myself.
I honestly think these are not girl friends or wives of AZ members rather sexy women they wish they could have but know they can't. About two months ago my wife was looking as I was showing her pictures of a cue. She asked me why these guys have half naked women as there pictures, My answer was short, sweet, and true, Most men are pigs , If they had any respect for a females they simply would not have these avatars.... O and by the way there are some guys that think they own this site and make all the rules.
