yep. i am a little out of the loop from when we audited them & busted United Way, but - yes.

all our donations do, is keep asses in seats (you know, for Obama's unemployment statistics), while it never trickles down. y'all would be better off handing cash to those in need. even the Salvation Army (whom i have supported since i was 18) will NOT be there, when/if/should you ever need them.

I dropped mom off at my daughter's place for 4 days. Daughter was concentrating on helping the wheel chair homeless guy, while feeding mom ramen noodles. Takes a video of her grandma with noodles running down her chin (because she was self medicating). Sends video to lil sis for a laugh. Lil sis knows better, thank goodness and says something is wrong with her....Anyhow what I'm getting at is that hopefully I donated a whole turkey to a homeless person because all mom got was ramen. $100 and a turkey doesn't buy shit these days. Thanks for letting me rant !

P.S. Wounded Warrior Project is still paying big bucks in commercials. I hope that is their only O/H. We switched to Hope for the Warriors in these parts after WW's money grab.

I am a member of an organization where nobody takes a salary and we run on minimal funds, we accept donations, but are not a fundraising organization. And yes, we are an official non-profit. There are plenty of very real problems that money cannot solve.

It's about being there, in person. Period.

I often cite organizations like Goodwill and March of Dimes.

Another one is veterans charities. Be very careful...one in particular comes to mind.

I want to point out St Jude in that list. Amazing place. Amazing charity. Amazing work they do. I have nothing to do with them personally, but I have sent a couple doctors there.

If you want to donate, give your time, blood, sweat, and tears, in person. I do not disrespect throwing money at something, but if that is all you do, I think you are not doing enough.

I work at least 70 hours a week...a great deal of the rest of my time is given to a cause that I live and breathe for. Proverbs 21:31

United Way ----- No Way. Never

I still owe the Red Cross though. They provided me RT airfare when they called me to tell me about my dad being on his deathbed right after basic training while I was in tech training in the USAF. They arranged a private pilot to fly me from Rantoul to Chicago that same night and transported me to O'Hare to catch a flight to Dallas all paid for. I have since given far more to local homeless shelters in the way of fresh food.

As a Mason and Shriner, I have to mention that the Shrine Hospitals (and any Masonic charity) have a very low overhead and a high ratio of money spent on the recipients.

Thanks.

Yes I had researched this not long ago. When I changed jobs 10 years ago, there was a push by the company to endorse one of them you had listed. Once I did some looking, I stopped donating to this particular one. They were not spending near enough money on those that needed it.

Thanks.
Without the Shriners, my mother never would have been able to walk. They took her to the Shriner hospital in Philly years ago and paid for everything.
My wife is Eastern Star and they do much charitable work. She has also been President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Eagles and the charity they do is impressive.

God bless each and every one of you
