My understanding is that he keeps one there at all times but has given up on assembling them for play. That way when he gets a new one and the old one gets sold it's a lot cleaner of a transaction. And the cloth lasts a lot longer too. A table used like this can actually appreciate in value if you buy them right.
He goes out in the garage and just sits there and stares at it like a neutered, declawed "inside" cat at a window sill staring at the birds in the yard. Longing for his next nap where he's pouncing on those birds at will in his dreams.
