More DynaSpheres

I blame Mr. K2K for my acquisition of the new DynaSpheres. It's hord work trying to keep with some of you Crazy Collectors.

Same set....Different Color Baize.

Good morning, Mr B. :)

You raise an interesting point there, dear fellow, regards keeping up with the growing collections of other folks. I realised fairly quickly that it would be impossible for me to buy every ball set I might desire... a harsh lesson for sure but that’s life. :)

In order to keep myself enthusiastic and excited about treasure hunting I try to specialise within quite a small collecting sphere... modern examples from 1969 onwards that either feature the traditional number font or no numbers at all.

It’s how I keep myself sane. :)

Before I discovered this thread, I never thought there would be more than say - a dozen - modern ball sets. Because you only see about 5 or 6 different sets in pool halls. Ok, maybe I expected some cheap Chinese copies and such but no more than 2 dozen. I am awestruck seeing your collections here.

I always thought there were enormous numbers of different golf balls (which I collect - not seriously but I pick new ones up when I find them). Now I realize I was lucky not to have discovered pool ball collecting before. Golf ball collecting is so much cheaper, pool balls are much harder to steal in different versions and I would have missed the roughs in pool halls :)

Good afternoon, Mr M. :)

It’s great to hear from you, dear chap.

On the subject of golf balls, sir, I once found one on the beach near my home here in Devon, England. The colourful logo suggested it had somehow floated its way across the Atlantic from a links course on America’s eastern coast. I thought the club might be interested to hear of their intrepid ball’s journey, so I packaged it up and sent it home with an accompanying letter.

They never replied. :)

I'm with you.

I had the same experience Meucciplayer. A dozen sets at the most...and then while searching eBay I kept getting redirected to the AZB site...the rest is history. Now I realize Mr. K is right, I cannot acquire all the sets id like and will have to be somewhat selective on my future purchases. :)

Nice catch, Mr P. :)

I believe that rather quirky set was made by Lincos Sports from
Xiamen, China.

I have a set of glow in the dark and a set of 3D numbers from Lincos and there are great similarities to the all stripe set. Not that Mr. RC needs any confirmation from me.

Tiffany

Speaking pretty pictures...who new that Tiffany and Co. made pool ball sets until Mr. K2K presented them on the AZB a few weeks ago? I inquired at that time and I found the same thing that K2 found...they were out of stock. I clicked on the link to be notified when they would again be available. While I waited a couple weeks for a reply from Tiffany I knew I also needed to get permission from my better half. I waited for the perfect opportunity to ask...approximately 2.5 glassed of Cabernet...and when I showed her the pretty picture she agreed.

This set arrived yesterday. The presentation was quite something. They look quite stunning on my Slate Grey Simonis.

Oh, my. I had to sit down.

A perfectly executed and brilliant way to add to the esteemed treasure chest, Mr. bfriesth - to the tune of LESS than a full bottle of Cabernet to smooth the approach? Surely you jest! I’d wager a young King’s ransom that it was accompanied by the requisite smooth tongue of a crazed collector Bravo!!

Tiffany’s

Instantly recognized as one of the preeminent luxury retailers on Earth....for the past 183 years. An arbiter of excellent taste that I’m sure your dear wife will appreciate for decades, sir!

I absolutely love the 8-ball with the Tiffany blue numeral. They look exquisite upon the Slate Grey baize.

May I have permission * to use your smooth approach with my Queen of the Home Court to clear way for this wondrous and extravagant display of affection for both the cuesports and the Queen, sir?

*currently on the notification list when available

I just follow this thread for the pretty pictures.

Same here...one of my favorite threads....I hope I don’t become a collector...
...it’s much cheaper to do it vicariously.

I used to oil paint when I was young...actually sold a few as a teenager,,,
,,,and I was sensitive to different golf balls...worked in a pro shop since 12 years old.
....some brands I could recognize by sound even 500 yards away.

I had a pool hall in my late 20s, the snooker balls were made in the UK and Belgium..
...often got mixed up...I could identify each make by the hues...every one except the
black balls and the white balls,,,an art background comes in handy at times.

But of course. You have my permission to plagiarizer the tactics that turned out to be successful for me.

Hello again, Mr B. :)

Sincere congratulations, dear fellow!

That Tiffany set really is an awesome purchase, sir, and one I did not expect for a second. I am supremely confident in stating that very few discerning collectors will ever own those beautiful balls. It is an iconic brand and a truly wonderful addition to your collection. It is surely no overstatement to say that your new set is right up there with Raschig’s Four Players or Hyatt’s Reverse Romaniques as an example of a true collecting great. Bravo, sir!

Regards the most expensive (playable) pool ball set that money can buy, I think Mr B is alluding to Louis Vuitton’s astonishing billiard trunk and its accompanying branded balls. Only $57,000!

Best wishes, everyone. :)

The perfect pool trilogy:

- take a quirky pool ball set (1) and combine that with a unique and equally quirky set of game rules (2) and match those with a soundtrack for ambiance (3).

Here’s one example for today’s PBC thread contribution:

(1) a Dirty Pool ball set

(2) the game Dirty 101 from the 40-page booklet

(3) Stevie Ray Vaughan and his 1983 track titled “Dirty Pool” from his Texas Flood album...

True love is gone, I's been played for a fool
True love is gone, I's been played for a fool
I'm turnin' the tables on you
You've been playin' dirty pool
You said you'd call the shots darlin'
All your friends thought that was cool
You said you'd call the shots darlin'
All your friends thought that was cool
Yeah, but when you shot at the eight ball baby
I knew you were playin' dirty pool
They say that life, life is a game of give an' take
They say that life, life is a game of give an' take
I'm tellin' you one thing right now little baby
I won't be the one to pay for your mistakes, oh, no baby

- spoken so eloquently, sir.

From the creators of this 32-ball set you’ll notice this intro: “THE RULES ARE SIMPLE .. HAVE FUN .. PLAY DIRTY”.

A 32-ball SET is what caught my attention

Without further ado (yes, that’s the proper form) here they are in their original ball boxes from my vault:

58509f0c7d152eff53988cf3ecfd9121.jpg

Most likely manufactured in Asia from your typical 2000’s resin makeup, they are of decent quality with fairly tight weight variances. They measured, rolled and played well for a few hours and cleaned up like new with an easy 30 second spin in the Diamond machine.

What I think makes this set worth acquiring is that you get two full boxes of balls that will give folks enough NEW and unique game options to last a lifetime of casual, fun play - without having to buy any other sets.

I’d put these in the GIFT category you just may want to grab for a friend or fellow collector - after all, there aren’t too many 2-BOX sets out there

They come with a 40-page rule book and equally quirky set of rules that does take time to wade through but have a few hidden gems in there for the adventuring player.

From their site as well...

CALLING YOUR SHOT IS NOT DIRTY ENOUGH .. SO DON'T

Play on, Stevie!
