Yup, I agree Pete. Sad how lines are so easily crossed by some here and absolute judgments are assessed.

Gene and Rhea put their road tales and tails out there. Pretty cool if you ask me.

The whole thing is this: Is Rhea there to make money or to learn? They are certainly two different things.

In my opinion, it would be unrealistic for Gene to expect to make much money with her at her current skill level.

need to know what you got and what your going after...........

i do understand exactly and i am trying all the time to get Rhea to understand.

One step at a time and the rest is methodically learning how this whole process works.

At one time I used to drive 20 miles around a casino to avoid going off. Then i learned to count cards and finally got kicked out of most.

I thought I could win back before i counted the cards but soon learned different. Once I learned how to count I realized how bad the odds were before when I was just trying to play and win.

Rhea can learn but it is a tough process and she asks me all the time if she should keep playing. When i told her yes last night she almost looked surprised. i had watched the last 2 sets and could see the other girl was pretty tired. Experience was right again but only because i had an ace in the whole.

I know i got a race horse and know when to take the plow off and when to put it on.

That's the difference in this business.

Just like cards. Kenny Rogers said it best in the song.

Know when to hold'em . Know when to fold'em. Know when to walk away , and know when to run.....

Pool players need to know this whole phrase and really think about it all the time.

Emotions can get you into trouble but sometimes they can help. This is when that heart thing comes into effect and the player outruns the nutz.

So some race horses you just need to give a little more rope. I used to be one of these and the players and friends that know me know the facts.

I can see Rhea outrunning the nutz here and there but the body, heart and sould have to all be in the right place. This is what i am trying to teach her and we'll just have to see how this story plays out.

Me with these pills for the siezures and getting some sleep now after 7 months of not, I might even be able to demonstrate a little heart first hand for Rhea.

I've been a beast for about 6 days now. Need to keep the beast mode for the bankroll, Rhea, myself and for the love of the game.

Without the love of the game none of this is possible.

Love the game....that is the SECRET...........

I think they're doing this to primarily enjoy their passion for pool - and money is a mostly necessary means to that end. Secondary to that I'm guessing:

- Gene surely enjoys company on the lonely road
- Gene LOVES to share his knowledge
- Rhea may have some conflict in balancing her role. She loves the game/gamble, feels restricted in what she can do, and might feel self-pressed to pull more weight

I called the poolhall and Rhea is playing a guy that is a 9 $20 sets. imagine that.

She is just donating. She doesn't even find out how someone plays. Just plays.

The girl she was playing last night is a 7. Good luck with beating Matt. I called and told her to pull up. I'm on my way.

I think some players on here are finally seeing the scope of the problem here. I'm just trying to keep her from losing money and teach her at the same time. it's hard enough to make money out there and fade this too.

Donating is one thing that is a killer on the road.

She has too much money in her pocket right now.

Got to go.

Everyone gets it Gene, she's an action junkie. She likes the action better than the money. You'll have to babysit her forever or feed her habit. IMO.

I hate to say it but it doesn't really sound like your making any ground there.

What's the saying about insanity is doing the same things over and over but expecting a different result?

Interesting thread to read but I gotta say, it's been looking like one of those accidents you don't really want to watch but you can't look away either. I can hear the tires screeching from here.

Damn shame....

It's getting crazy.. she's playing a 9 rated dude ??? You need to hold the money, you need to make the games, you need to negotiate the terms, OK all of the play, and also when to pull up. You are essentially her backer, and she will learn more that way, then on her own. I'm pissed and it's not my money she is pissing away :) hang in there !!!

i don't doubt that rhea has a love for the game. as i said in an earlier post, she is addicted to it. actually i think that addiction is an asset to your original plan of taking her on the road and making her a champion.

rheas willingness to gamble with anybody and everybody night after night at her current playing level is a serious liability however.

You know not for nothing but, why when you 2 started the I'm building a champion it's a girl thread, gene says we have to go to the doctor to get Ray lady medicine, cause we don't want her getting pregnant on the road.
I asked a fair and straightforward question that has been looming around this forum since then. I asked are you a man? You responded back with a bunch of bull about std's and stuff. If you are indeed a transvestite or transsexual, why not say it? I looked at this pic you posted and I know what I think, Raymond. The hands don't lie.
. The truth will set you free.

Iam out of here.

why do you care so much about what my opinion is ? several posters have said a lot less positive things than i did but yet you are singling me out ?

as i said in an earlier post when people air their dirty laundry they should expect for some one to say if it stinks.

even gene has said he has a problem with her.it seems like every body sees a problem but you, so whats your problem in not seeing there is a problem ?

Gene, everyone but you sees the problem: She's a gambling addict. For Rhea's sake and yours, please take the time to look this up on the Internet. The following information from the helpguide.org may be useful to you:
Treatment for problem gambling

Every gambler is unique and so needs a recovery program tailored specifically to him or her. What works for one gambler won’t necessarily work for you. The biggest step in treatment is realizing you have a problem with gambling. It takes tremendous strength and courage to own up to this, especially if you have lost a lot of money and strained or broken relationships along the way. Don’t despair, and don’t try to go it alone. Many others have been in your shoes and have been able to break the habit.

Overcoming a gambling addiction or problem is never easy. But recovery is possible if you stick with treatment and seek support. To find help in your area, see Resources and References below.

Group support for gambling addiction and problem gambling

Gamblers Anonymous is a twelve-step recovery program patterned after Alcoholics Anonymous. A key part of a 12-step program is choosing a sponsor. A sponsor is a former gambler who has time and experience remaining free from addiction, and can often provide invaluable guidance and support.

Therapy for problem gambling

Cognitive-behavioral therapy for problem gambling focuses on changing unhealthy gambling behaviors and thoughts, such as rationalizations and false beliefs. It also teaches problem gamblers how to fight gambling urges, deal with uncomfortable emotions rather than escape through gambling, and solve financial, work, and relationship problems caused by the addiction.

The goal of treatment is to “rewire” the addicted brain by thinking about gambling in a new way. A variation of cognitive behavioral therapy, called the Four Steps Program, has been used in treatment of compulsive gambling as well. The goal is to change your thoughts and beliefs about gambling in four steps; re-label, reattribute, refocus, and revalue. More comprehensive information about cognitive behavioral therapy and applying it to your situation is found below.

Seeing a therapist does not mean you are weak or can’t handle your problems. Therapy is for people who are smart enough to realize they need help. It can give you tools and support for reframing your thoughts that will last a lifetime.

So much for... If u don't have anything positive to say.......
I hate this negative busy body garbage

you know i have to agree with that saying and i usually abide by it. if every one on this forum abided by that saying the post count on this forum would drop drastically you are just as guilty as me and every one else .:grin-square:

there is also a saying that if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it must be a ....well you get it hopefully:wink:

I'm not singling anyone out and if there's a problem with Gene and Rhea then it's there problem. I don't judge the posters... Just the posts. I may like the next thing you post on another thread and it's nothing personal but I feel like you and others are wayyyy out line with this. I've seen Dora and others try to insinuate she's a guy and now she's talked about like she has no feelings. I'm just the type if I see someone getting trashed and they are not firing back then I'm going to step in whether it's on a forum or in person. I can't stand unprovoked attacks. Nothing personal but I don't see the reasoning behind mean spirited posts. I like Johnnyt but he's a negative ass about half the time
It's late and I'm going my stoned ass to bed. Good night

with all due respect to everyone reading and participating on this thread:

rhea and gene have both made the concious decision to publicly document their road trip, disclosing events and their feelings, warts and all. this had to be done with a keen understanding that it would spark much debate and invite plenty of comments.

with that said, I believe they should accept whatever comments and criticism may come their way *however*, and I don't know how to say this any plainer . . .

kindly stop with the mean-spirited bullshit because they don't deserve that.

speak your mind, absolutely; but do it in a respectful and civil way.

and for the record, I very much appreciate Gene & Rhea giving us a peek into their adventure.

thanks.

best,
brian kc
