Education is largely a matter of indoctrination any way you look at it, and … there is
no reason to presume unintelligence or shallowness in and “indoctrinator.” Socrates
was neither unintelligent nor shallow, nor, for that matter, was Adam Smith, or Lenin.
But they did not approach a classroom as a vast hippodrome, where all ideas “start
even in the race,” where the teacher must interfere with none, because the right idea
will automatically come romping home ahead of the others. Their method lay rather
in exposing the latent disabilities in all but the winning contestant. “The Socratic
manner,” Max Beerbohm reminded us, “is not a game at which two people can play.”

Nobody is suppressing Wm. F. Buckley, Jr's quotes.

They just don't quote him.

That kind of prolix prose is not pithy or quotable-- it's pedantic and pretentious. Truth!

His only famous line was calling Gore Vidal a queer and threatening to punch him in the nose. And I don't even remember the exact phrasing. Please find that one, if you have it in that alphabetized list of yours.

The point of modern propaganda isn't only to misinform or push an agenda. It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate truth.

Schools ought not to be neutral, Schools should not proceed as though the wisdom
of our fathers were too tentative to serve as an educational base. The Ten
Commandments do not sit about shaking, awaiting their inevitable deposition by
some swashbuckling professor of ethics. Certain great truths have been
apprehended. In the field of morality, all the basic truths have been apprehended;
and we are going to teach these, and teach, and demonstrate, how it is that those
who disregard them fall easily into the alien pitfalls of communism, or fascism, or
liberalism.

There is a purpose in life. It is known what that purpose is, in part because it has
been divulged, in part because man is endowed with a rational mechanism by which
he can apprehend it. Educators should pass on those truths, and endow students
with the knowledge of the processes by which they are recognized as such. To do
this is the single greatest contribution a teaching institution can make: it is the aim of
education, to which all else is subordinate and derivative. If education can endow
students with the powers of ethical and rational discrimination by which to discern
and give their allegiance to the great certitudes of the West, we shall have a breed of
men who will discharge truly the responsibilities that face them as the result of
changing conditions.

Mr. Eisenhower is nowadays viewed, by those who take refuge from the activities
of the New Frontier and the Great Society, as the Raggedy Ann of yesteryear, the
warm puppy of the cuddly past when the White House was occupied by competent
bridge-playing businessmen rather that ideological scriveners staying up late writing
new laws for us to obey.

scrive·ner
ˈskriv(ə)nər/Submit
nounhistorical
plural noun: scriveners
a clerk, scribe, or notary.

Scriveners remain common in countries[which?] where literacy rates remain low;
they read letters for illiterate customers, as well as write letters or fill out forms for
a fee. Many now use portable typewriters to prepare letters for their clients.
However, in areas with very high literacy rates, they are almost non-existent.

Shocking how Buckley misuses a word here! Possibly a first!

Scriveners just copy things into writing. They do not compose anything.
