There are a lot of them, but my favorite is "Cornbread Red". It has a rhythmic flow to it, easy to remember and is descriptive of its recipient. It was bestowed upon one Billy Joe Burge in 1957 by a bookie from Pontiac, Michigan who asked Red what was in the paper he was holding. Answer was, of course, "cornbread"; the bookie started calling him cornbread, the story spread, and since he was already called Red, he now became "Cornbread Red".
