League $ Question - 09-14-2016, 02:12 PM

I have never played tournaments or pool leagues, so that being said, I have the following question.

Most leagues in my area cost around $40 a month to participate in their BCA, APA programs. One of the benefits of the membership includes no cost for playing pool in some certain recognize billiard establishments. So my question is; does any of the membership fee you pay go back to the pool hall from the league organizers. If so, approximately how much?

I am sure this is league and area dependent, but in my case the bar/pool hall in my area receives $10 (5 from each team) for every table that is used for APA that night.

I could wrong. I'm under the impression 30-50% is table time. The pool hall makes money off of that and people buying alcohol and food.

Do both teams play on a single table? How many folks on each team?

My BCA league is $6 a week. None of this goes to the bar/pool hall.
We play on bar tables and it's $1 per game, this all goes to the bar/pool hall. They also get any money from drinks and food.

All of our sponsoring bars open up their tables for free play, both for pre-match practice and the match itself. The bar pays a $50 sponsor fee for each team at the beginning of the season. One dollar per person per match ($10 total per match) is given to the bartender. The bar gets no green fee. They get money from drink/food sales only. Our sponsors also give each player one free drink per match, but they must have purchased one of the same. We have it pretty good here.

Our league has 5-person teams. Usually one table per match. If two tables are used then the match lasts half as long so the total table time remains the same.

Number of team members vary. There are 3 leagues held in my home room (not a bar but a pool hall). Two of them are 3 person team, and the other is a 5 man team. I know on the 5 man teams it's 12 bucks a person. It's a cash league and all teams get something. Last year we had 9 teams. I know 2nd payed $3,600 last year. I think we play 34 weeks, but it may be 36.

They open up the tables an hour before play starts, and you can play until midnight at no charge.

During the league season, members of the 5 man league can play anytime day or night for half price. I think on the 9 footers (which is what I play on most) it works out to around $2.50 an hour. The 8 footers are a little less. They have one 7 footer, but I've never hit a ball on it so don't know about it.
Oh, my league is a BCA Vegas league.

Thanks for all the details on how your league operates and the cost affiliated with the activities.

My home bar has open tables for its teams, but visitors pay a $10 greens fee. That gives us both a table for all night. I also get to shoot at this bar anytime I want without paying for table time.

League fees do not go to the bar. They earn their money through food and drinks.

One of the leagues I play in actually has the bars paying into it (as a sponsor) and that money goes toward MVP and league tournament winnings.

In my home league, the pool hall pays the team fee, gets no green fees, and buys everyone on the team a drink. A good deal compared to what other people are saying. Then again, the league is chock full of total alcoholics.

Here in Lafayette, the APA is now $9.00. The tables are opened up do no quarters but I cant help but think we are going to price it out market.

If you play both 8 ball, and 9 ball the same night, it becomes $18.00 night.
