Gorgeous as ever!

Bloodwood scares me for a core, though. I've used a fair amount for millwork. Unlike most wood i have not been able to just read the grain and know for sure which piece is going to twist and curl, and which with stay dead straight. There's a 2 x 10 x 8 or 10 ft i want to make some butts out of, but have not worked up the courage (or time).

Most of it does not float.
It smells good. (to me)

Cut some pieces and turn them round .
You can tell the direction better when they are round.
Look at the faces of the dowels and follow the grain.

What would be the difference if you reversed it?

Purpleheart forearm and butt sleeve with a maple handle?

If you got the weight and balance the same, how would the "hit" change? Harder? Softer?

All things being equal, it will hit harder.
A full size pplheart forearm with a good maple handle hits pretty hard.
A lower pitch sounding shafts match them better for someone who does not a really pingy hit.

Why do you boil it?

Are you trying to be funny?

It made me laugh, Joey does not boil a thing in this case.

Linseed oil has impurities from the get go, just buy Linseed oil and you will learn.

OR

Buy BLO (Boiled Linseed Oil) and the impurities are already boiled out.

I hope my half smartassed answer helped so you can LOL. It was a fair question that all Linseed Oil users must learn at some point.

The hardest to find combo- tight curl and super tight growth rings.

No just an honest question, haven't used linseed oil in about 25 years, and don't know/remember much about it.
