Sad news Paul Dayton cue maker has passed.

Paul Dayton the cue maker has passed on.
Paul was a great human being, loving husband of his wife Joyce.
Paul's passion was making cues that he was first proud of.
Sorry I don't have details.
I do know he will be buried today in Southwest Florida.
He died of complications of emphasima.

I heard the news a couple days ago, but couldn’t find any confirmation.
....was hoping it was not true.
I met Paul about 20 years ago at the SBE.
Bought one of his playing cues for an unbelievably low price....
...he wanted one of his cues in my area....it got him a few orders.

Very sad. Great cue maker.

For the moment his cue archive is still online on his web site.

The first cue in the archive is the last cue he made "by hand" meaning all of the inlays were done with hand tools:

This was the last cue I built with only an X-Acto knife, files and a Dremel tool. Everything you see was cut out by hand and inlaid the same way including the points , all of which was then laid out on the birds eye maple cue and inlaid. How many hours were involved I don’t know but I do remember that for the last week or two I couldn’t make any mistakes because they would show. It weighs 19.3 oz., and has two 12.95 mm shafts. All the white except the butt cap is ivory

My Dayton was one of the last he made that way.

Cool guy. I was happy when he posted here. Very "straight talking" no BS guy. Knew his wood, a real "wood guy".

He will be missed.

Terrible news.
Paul was a wonderful gentleman, very direct in his approach with people.
Plain spoken, extremely trustworthy, and great with wood. A craftsman.
We went to dinner several times over the past 20-25 years. Always a delight, and interesting.
Paul will be missed.
Rhoda and I will have his friends and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers.
RIP Paul Dayton.
