What's the interest level in America for Chinese 8 ball? Anybody out there thinking about buying a table? I'm considering importing a few Joy tables if there are any buyers out there...

All these things are possible
--American football is a slightly better game on 110-yard long fields
--tennis is a slightly better games on 82-foot courts (rather than 78)
--trains operation would be slightly better with 4'7" gauge track rather than 4'8"
--pool would be a slightly better game with some new and different tables
All of these involve major infrastructure overhauls. And the industry making the change would be making a long-term investment that would cost dearly in the short haul. In each case, the change had better be worth it in the long haul. And the industry had better be sufficiently healthy and flush with money now to fade the short haul.
Whether it is 10-foot tables or Chinese 8-Ball tables or whatever, it is not enough that xxxtoppro got one to practice on or YYYtoppro likes them... If we are going to advocate the change as an industry, we have to be prepared for pool-rooms feeling they had better swap out expensive equipment for fear of being outmoded. The money to make these changes comes from somewhere, and at least in the short haul, it is the money currently spent on cues and equipment, tournament added $$, entry fees for events, travel expenses, league dues. That is the $$--and a lot of it--that would need to be funneled toward this major infrastructure change.
It is much much cheaper to futz with the game rules than it is to futz with the equipment if, say, a particular game is too easy at the top level. I'm not opposed to considering the value of long-term changes, and I have no opinion on what is good or not good about Chinese 8-Ball in particular. But I think we should be careful to not be seduced by shiny things when it comes to major changes like this.
