JOSSWEST - The Best - 02-12-2019, 11:09 AM

Hello Members
Being at the end of my time,
I want to share my biggest cue that I had in my collection.

I no longer have any cues, but, it would be a shame,
if no one had a chance to see and appreciate the works of one of the greatest cuemaker and contributor to the Cuemaking World.

Thank You Bill Stroud.
I find it hard to believe, you are not in the Hall of Fame in any scanctioned Cuemaking organizations.

You were way ahead in your time.
Your work was impeccable.

Thatís crazy when you think about it. What he was able to do as far as design in the late 60ís and 70ís was on par with all the greats. Then in the later years he made some of the nicest cues out there. All of the Josswest cues Iíve ever played hit great too. Iím pretty sure he would be considered a Master cue maker. Iím not sure how many other Masters would be out there (maybe 5-10 living and non living).

Bill Stroud.....

One of the very best cuemakers in the history of the world.
Absolutely in the upper crust of all, without a doubt.
His innovations over the years are both enormous and plentiful.
His work is flawless, and his cues are amazing playing instruments.
I own many of his finest works and immensely love them, enjoy them regularly.

He has been invited to join the most important cuemaker Hall or Fame on
multiple occasions, but has quietly declined the honor. His contributions
are widely recognized by all who carefully analyze his body of work.

Alton, your cue is wonderful, and to think it was made almost 25 years ago.
Thanks for sharing the pictures, and
for your very insightful, timely post.
You are always appreciated.

Immortality - 02-14-2019, 09:52 AM

Hello Az ,
1st. Thanks for posting guys.

Hello Will.
Thank You for your explaination and truthful, phrasing observations.
You always seem to have "A pulse on the Industry".
You are a gentleman and, true " Wise Man" .

Amazingly, I, truely ( Truly) understand him.
I can see, Bill is a True Artisan.
Trapped in a World of Symmetry, Proportion, and, Perfection.
But, his soul, is truly, what I consider "Wabi Sabi", with " A hint of Impermanace"...

Mr. Stroud is in the front of the pack in every cue-maker race & he's been innocentlly slandered on the Az Forum.
Bill is on my list of the top 20 cue-makers and I'd pride myself on owning a either a Joss West Cue or a Josswest.

Alton,
Here are two of my Josswest cues on the left that are very similar to your cue. One of mine is Purple Heart with turquoise inlays,
and the other is a beautiful Palmwood with malachite inlays.
I only show these because I thought you would enjoy seeing a couple of “partner” cues to yours.

Also, I have meant to tell you for several years now that I have the Bob Owen cue with matching
Ziggy’s cue caps that you made. I love the YouTube video that you made showing every
step in the construction of the caps. The video should be mandatory homework viewing
for anyone who would enjoy seeing how a complex, beautiful caps set is made.

Beautiful cue - 02-16-2019, 06:48 AM

Billy was the first to core cues, I was in Las Vegas for a big tournament
and either Cardone or Ed Kelley (I think ) had a box cue with the forearm
made of Ivory or micarta or something white . It was like a negative of
the box cue that was in one of his brochures, stunning. I have never
seen anything like it. Years later I asked him about it and he said it was
the first cored cue. I wonder what happened to it. I have known Billy since
our Cotton Bowling Days ,he was my fist pool idol. He played all pool games
very well including snooker, but I kicked his butt on the golf course.

Jack,
I own the white (non-ivory) cue you are describing. Here is a picture of the forearm
and buttsleeve in with a few other rare ones.
There is quite a story behind each of these box cues (not for here).

Bill has been nominated for both major Hall of Fames and has even been voted into the ICA hall of fame and turned down his induction. You can ask him why. This has been brought up repeatedly, and it has even been said on here our hall of fame is not a true hall of fame without him. Any time he changes his mind we will put him in since he already got voted in.

Hi Chris..
I know you said this in a nice, positve note:

"This has been brought up repeatedly, and it has even been said on here our hall of fame is not a true hall of fame without him. Any time he changes his mind we will put him in since he already got voted in."

No one said it's not a true Hall of Fame.
No one would deny the Inducties their "Fame", which was their contrubution to the Pool Cue Industry.
I believe that was the intent of the Hall of Fames. Not "Popularity"

Since I am here, from The JF Collection > JOSSWEST TUXEDO.
Thank You Mr. James and Will for your postings and sharings, and all you guys for posting.
Thank You Bill.
