Lots of tv has pool in it. I think is is just coz it is a visually dramatic insertion for backgrounds.

Pool is alive and well in American homes. Middle America don't frequent pool halls.
You know, it is true. Perhaps it is just trophy furniture in a lot of cases though.
I was amazed by the number of pool tables in the homes of my kids friends.
No gold crowns or diamonds though.
There is a pool hall in a few shots of one of the Crown Royal Commercials that looks to be set in New Orleans too.
