FargoRate - 10-02-2015, 12:32 PM

I would like to use FargoRate to measure my own improvement rate. I am fascinated with the rating system so far.

I am currently motivated by the top 100 lists in both the World list and the USA list.
My first goal will be to get on the top 100 USA list which I am 3 points shy of at the moment. Then I would like to try to get on the top 100 World list eventually as I continue to improve.

What is the best way to go about this? Should I play challenge matches between myself and people who are already on the list? Or is it better to only try to enter into tournaments that effect your rating directly? Also how can I find which ones do and which ones do not? If I am going to travel out of state just to get rated I want to know which tournaments to play in.

Well although I understand anyone wanting to better themselves , I hardly believe the Fargo ranking is very accurate in woman's standings ,the participants in tourneys is far less on the woman's side ,, thier could possibly be hundreds of woman better than the top 25 in rankings accordin to Fargo rankings

Playing matches against people on the list will do nothing to your rating unless it is an event or match that Mike Page will be getting the data from. I know he has gotten his data from a lot of places but the one that I am pretty certain that it appears that he will always be using and that will affect your Fargo rating are the BCAPL Nationals singles events. There may be others that are guaranteed to be used or that he already has arrangements with, that is just the only one I am aware of where it appears to for sure be the case.

Play on every event that CSI is a part of.

I also think the JPNEWT tour is sending him data, because I have one friend that is rated on the FargoRate, and I think she only played on the JPNEWT 5 years ago, and hasn't picked up a cue since. I was actually shocked she was on the database.

I assume all regional WPBA qualifying tours count? Such as OBCuestour?

Only 23 points shy to get on the World list.

"These lists are limited to currently active players. For that we have a pretty modest requirement of having played 100 games in our system in the last three years (and 200+ games overall). So there are a lot of players who would be on these lists if they had more games in the FargoRate system. We are adding games at an increasing rate, and in time these lists will be more complete." --Mike Page

How did you go from over 100 to #72 in 4 days? Did you rating change because more of your games were discovered in the system? Or did you play in a ton of games in those 4 days? Or some other reason?

Actually neither one... they improved the rating system by changing the way people are listed... Your actual robustness never goes away, but unless you have a minimum of 200 games AND at least 100 over the past 3 years you arent considered currently playing as far as being on the list is concerned... my rating only changed slightly numberwise, however some competitors are not being listed because they havent been actively playing in the past 3 years... which is a better more accurate way to view the list.
