Solutions for addressing raised metal on Gold Crowns

I have scraped the crap out of my knuckles multiple times on Gold Crowns with raised metal nameplates and score counters.. Anyone got a solution for this?

Is it possible to take these out and then router out the opening to make them sit lower in the rail, without compromising the integrity of the rail?

Thanks,

For the nameplate: Yes

For the counters: Maybe.. Just consider that the counters have square corners. Sinking them into the rail will require a cut-out with similar sharp corners.
