Ondrej Hosek, BC Ponetovice, took the first senior title of the Czech Republic champion last weekend. The European Junior Champion in free play from 2016 in the finals overpowered Miloš Háva in the ratio of 109: 99.
Only six players took part in the 49th Republic Championship of the 47/2 cadre on the racing table. The event was organized by the Vital sports zs club in its new playroom in Poruba (former BC Poruba). The players were divided into two three-member groups, the first two secured for the Sunday semifinals.
On Saturday the group part played to 175 points for a maximum of 20 breaks. Group A won with an overview of Tomas Cebula from BC Havirov. Cebula beat home Žabenský at 18 breaks. In the second match with Matyáš Tomas showed the best performance of the whole tournament, when he finished in the 7th break. Radek Matyáš from Hodonín club secured the second place. In Group B, all three players scored two points. Only the general average decided on the procedure. Ondřej Hošek saved himself in the tournament thanks to winning the last match of the group with Milos Hava. He won 171: 137 and on average he got ahead of Daniel Mikala from Bohumin. Mikala, who beat Hosek in the match, reached 5.10 on GP. Hošek played the GP 6.65 thanks to his win over Hava. The group was won by a player from Přerov with a GP of 7.77.
In the Sunday semifinal, Matyas was close to surprise. He led over favorite Have 62:41. Hava turned the match with a series of 38 points and finally won 73:96. The second semifinal was much better. Hošek finished the limit of 200 points in the 17th break. Cebula had 121 points and went to the finish. With a series of 79 points he managed to remake the match. The winner decided to shoot. Hošek was more successful in it when he won 5: 4.
After the 17th run of the final match Háva nad Hoškem led 79:99. However, the Ponětovice player turned the match with a series of 28 points and finally won the lead by 109: 99.
For Ondra Hosek it is so profit of his first senior republic championship.

As you can see from the results of the tournament participants, there is at first sight a big drop in performance. Already before the tournament there was a question on the table whether to organize, translate or change its status. It was debated at the level of the Executive Committee or publicly among the members of the pool community. In view of the fact that the tournament was not nominated for any European Championship, Marek Faus did not register. Ziogas, Bača A., Kozák, Frieda, Ráček did not play regular participants of the past years. There were also missing quality players of technical disciplines from the North Moravian region.
Longtime members of the carambola section (and that there are a majority of them) are wondering how it is possible that there has been such a decline in the level of technical disciplines (not only on the big table) in our country. It's a big shock to them. They were accustomed to the fact that the cadre tournaments were won by 40 general and in the crowded field of participants, besides the already mentioned ones, they would meet the names Onderka, Truksa, Stareček, Andrejovský, Vedral and others. However, the reality of the last two or three seasons is different. Guilt rolls on the leadership section. The current consequence, however, has a long-term development and is mainly related to the set trend.
The European Billiard Federation (CEB), whose pillar of each season was the three European Championship in technical disciplines, first came out in 2013 with the format of the European Championship of all disciplines. CEB, headed by then President Rittman, argued that he could not find the organizers for each event, so it would be a better solution to organize one big event. And since such an event is expensive, it will only be every two years. In addition, CEB signed an exclusive contract with the city of Brandenburg at der Havel for the possibility of holding a European (senior) championship only in their territory. Since it is not possible to have such an event in the schedule of an open tournament, the number of participants was limited. And most of all, this limitation has just affected technical disciplines. So out of the 50-60 participants of the open European Championships, the European Championships in cadres 47/2, 71/2 and a single band for 24 players were at once. Tournaments take place in groups of three, the first match is 90% defacto KO. This decision was the biggest blow for technical disciplines in Europe. CEB then came up with a Grand Prix. However, except for French players, these tournaments were not of interest to anyone. Many players did not go to the tournament because they did not receive financial support from their federation. You're going to the Grand Prix, we're interested in the European Championship. In fact, TD players have completely closed the international scene. Train to tournaments every two years? There were four editions of ME Brandenburg. Four Grand Prix tournaments have been organized over the years. One of them also with us. And it feels uncomfortable if you are hosting an international tournament and don't even fill the field of participants. This decision was the biggest blow for technical disciplines in Europe. Of course, the last eight years have resulted in a decline in TD levels in individual federations. Today, the German TD TD is completely unprecedented. A few years ago, the incredibly strong Dutch league, headed by Caudron, Jaspers, Leppens, Niessen, Tilleman, Blondeel, de Bruijn and others, is now also a quarter. The European Championship teams also lost quite a bit of their quality. And since in recent years our players have a relatively large outlook, this decline has occurred in our country. And simply did not occur due to interventions of the section management. This was due to the European trend.
It is important to realize that there is a sporting peak in every organization. There is a competitive environment that leads to the development of not only gaming but also organizational. At the moment when our long-time peak was a competition that has been won by one, two teams in recent seasons, and two-thirds of the more successful team did not give much training because it was enough, it was just something wrong. And wrong was the long-standing stereotype, which despite the last few better years gradually kills us. Therefore, the vast majority of the "better" players regularly began to participate at the expense of technical disciplines in the triple on the big table. They noticed something new that was able to get them back to training, boosting competition and touring. And that the section management noticed and wanted to support these players in their activity? Perhaps this cannot be blamed in a sports organization.
The current CEB management immediately came to their election in 2017, saying that they want to hold the European Championship in all disciplines also in seasons outside Brandenburg. Unfortunately, it turns out that it is already too late for technical. In this sport season, it was not possible to find an organizer for cadres 47/2 and 71/2. It will be only in May European Championship in single band. But again with only 24 players. Another fact is the development of youth in the European field. April European Youth Championship and 6 registered free cadet tournament players and 9 juniors for free on the big table. While the cadet triple is filled with a 16-member field and the junior triple even 29 players enrolled. So 5 players don't get into the tournament at all. In addition, the abolition for us so successful three-man European Championship in free play. Replaced by pairs in triple and 5-pins. So it is obvious that that the three-band and 5-pins are clearly pushed by the CEB Youth Commission. And ČMBS as a member of the CEB must be prepared for this from a sports perspective.
And it was a mistake that the often mentioned successful trio in technical disciplines Hošek-Kozák-Bača did not catch the transition to the three-band a few years earlier. Ondra was a direct player in the first ever European cadet in triple bands in 2012. 17-year-old Ondra, at that time in full technical discipline training, witnessed the first international medal of the then 14-year-old Gwendal Marechal. Beginning of French billiard transition from technical disciplines to triple. From the beginning, however, very well sophisticated with set goals. Do you know a young Frenchman playing the highest level of TD? They all switched to a triple band. Much longer this vigorous step lasted in Holland. But he also came. And even before this season by Sam van Etten himself. He made his game in technical disciplines almost 23 years old. But he exactly hit the limits of success. He won everything in his home country. But what about the international scene? How many opportunities does he have? Is it worth training for this? And while no one can know whether he will grow into an equally good three-band player, he has chosen this difficult route anyway. And believe me, the Dutch Federation of KNBB faces exactly the same question as we do thanks to these decisions. What to do with technical disciplines? Great membership, tradition versus unstoppable trend.
It is therefore not only a great (r) evolution for our membership. However, we cannot stay away from the action somewhere. Even at the expense of whether or not we will be successful internationally in the coming decade.

Technical disciplines will not disappear. However, our technical players need to be motivated to play not only in their region and to train regularly. And this is the big, burning issue of our small billiard community. I therefore call for a discussion.

Sad to hear. It does seem that the new CEB leadership will help the technical disciplines.
