Lets remember a couple of things here. John has broken 400 only 4 times. I say only with all due respect. One time is awesome and 4 times is superb, but obviously 400 is not easy at all. Can he do it? I believe so. Will he do it? I'm not so sure.

Also, whoever breaks the record will do it on equiptment that is tougher than what Misconi played on. No disrespect to the late, great Mr. Mosconi, but when its done on a tougher table, that person will put themselves in a class by themself.

Besides John, who else do you think is a top contender to break the record? Didn't Cory run close to 400 within the last couple years?

Dennis Orcullo was consistently making 200s every year at the DCC 14.1 challenge event on Diamonds. Filler, who has the record of 285 at DCC (video on YouTube) is another contender, and Filler is a spring chicken.

Niels and Melling I think could make a good run at it too. I would like to see Efren do it since he is retired and has time on his hands now.

What is the second highest run that we know of? I don't know anyone who is above Johns 434 except for Mosconi. Is that the second highest of all time?

if there was an incentive, say a 100k prize, i don't think mosconis record would last a year. the question would be who would reach it first

hohmann, filler, lee van, orcullo, shane, niels, melling, schmidt.. probably many more contenders. todays pros are such good shotmakers it's unbelievable

I think it is the second highest of any exhibition run. There have been lots of rumored and real practice runs that are higher. I don't know the situation for Engert's 491. Some believe that Eufemia did have a 625 but it needed more documentation. Eufemia certainly stated clearly that he made the run.

I hope John busts out and does a 777. I think he has about one chance in 100 of doing that in his next two sessions. I think he is odds on for 526+ in his next 40 days of attempts.

Give $10K and a week I bet Dennis, Filler, or Melling would taken down that 526 on the same table Schmidt ran that 400+ on.

The fact that it is so hard to do and John has had to make so many attempts is testament to how skilled Mosconi truly was.
Not to mention he basicly walked if off the street said here I am and ran 526 , could you imagine how many balls he might have run if he took a month to set a mark on these tables cleaning and polishing balls ,

I think it would take a much bigger prize than 100k for the pros at large to all go after the record like John is. I put the number at 1 million. Otherwise, they will all stay in bed.

Filler did 280+ and Dennis did 260+ on a tough tough Diamond on just a few days of attempts under a very constrained time frame.

They're just as capable and maybe even more so than JS.

I think John has the skills to run as many balls as he wants, until his arm falls off.

The biggest obstacle, besides the usual need for constant focus, will be ducking all
the potential bad luck/bad rolls.

A break shot with only a 3% risk of distaster is still unlikely for just 10 racks...
About 50/50 to happen through the course of 20 racks...
Just about inevitable if he ever hits 40+ racks.

I think he's shown he can hit 400 when focused and with a lot of tries,
but so many things have to go right to hit another 100+ on top of that.

All the pros you know personally must live in a different universe than all the pros I know.

All but the VERY ELITE would be all over the 100k. I'm not so sure the cream of the crop would turn their nose up at 100k.

Remember, most of the elite players only get "part" of what they win in action matches.

The 100k scenario would mean they get it all and very few pros haul off that kind of $$$ unless your talking months and months of traveling and grinding.

Sure, there have been occasions where some make bank but it's very rare.

Remember who backs these pros:

Professional gamblers...... lol..... they dont take chances (gamble).

I knew a fellow that thought he was a good boxer because he was in a position to befriend a lot of "professional boxers". It cost him azzwhippens till he realized he wasn't what he thought/wished he was.

Do you know anyone like the "wannabe" boxer in the pool world?

I really donít think so. Most will know itís out of reach for them. They would only do it if already at another tournament as a bonus.

What I mean is they wonít drop everything like Schmidt has and call on help from their family and friends and sponsors like Schmidt has laid out in his podcast for a tiny chance of winning 100k. For 1 million, yes. But not 100k, they will stay in bed.
