Here are some results from the Justin Bergman vs. Francisco Bustamante 8-Ball race to 25 played at Racks on the Rocks in West Peoria, IL on Friday, February 21, 2020. PoolActionTV provided pay-per-view streaming.

This was the first set of a best-two-out-of-three-sets all-around challenge match with 8-Ball on Day 1, One-Pocket on Day 2, and 10-Ball (if needed) on Day 3. The commentators were Larry Schwartz, Ray Hansen, Mark Wilson, and Nick Varner. Bergman won the set 25-21.

Conditions -- The conditions for this call-shot 8-Ball set included:
- Diamond 9-foot table with pro-cut pockets;
- Simonis 860 blue cloth;
- Aramith balls, including a measles cue ball;
- breaker racks using a triangle rack;
- winner breaks from anywhere behind the head string;
- take the group you make more of on the break (table open if breaker made same number of each group, or fouled, or broke dry);
- ball in hand behind the head string after a foul on the break;
- jump cues not allowed;
- 3-foul rule in effect; and
- lag for opening break.​

■ Bergman broke 24 times -- successful 11 times (resulting in 10 game wins and 1 loss), 6 fouls (1 win and 5 losses), and 7 dry (2 wins and 5 losses).

■ Bustamante broke 22 times -- successful 14 times (resulting in 8 game wins and 6 losses), 1 foul (a loss), and 7 dry (2 wins and 5 losses).

Wow Bergman BNR 10/11 on wet breaks is strong for take what you make.

Too bad his wet break % is so low.

Shane would be 75%+ wet break.

61% (28 of 46) of the games were won with solids. :smile:

Good stuff here.

I heard a guy telling his girlfriend last night that solids were the easier set to win with. When she asked why he didn’t have much of a response lol. Now we have definitive proof!

but, but, but,... a year ago, when Bergman played Deuel a best-3-out-of-5-sets match on a 7-footer, 57% of Bergman's wins came with stripes. Yesterday, on the 9-footer, 72% of his wins were with solids. So for Bergman, stripes are clearly the better choice on 7-footers and solids on 9-footers. It's good to be able to prove stuff with numbers.
