Hello Jack, my place has 20ft ceilings, I like this for two reason's.

First, it gives you the ability to properly hang any type of lights that you choose, and it also stops cue sticks for touching or rubbing the ceiling.

Second, it makes the room appear larger and more open, which makes most people more comfortable and relaxed.

Taller ceilings help with a smoking pool room. If the ceiling are to low the smoke hovers at 6-8ft about avg eye level. I would suggest min. of 20ft ceiling for a pool hall with great ventilation to remove smoke.
