Found the lyrics on a site called azlyrics.com of all places LOL :)

Been listening to a bunch of stuff that pops up on Amazon music playing with my new headphones, blues station came up with this:

Jonny Lang Lyrics
"Rack 'Em Up"

I used to hang out down at Jack's Pool Hall
You go down there and don't do nothin' at all
If you wanted to play some cards there was a game in the back
If you wanted to shot or somethin' you went and talked to Jack
If you had a little money you was a grade A fool
There was a guy down there who used to shoot a little pool

Rack 'em up
Till' the day he was dead that all they ever said
Rack 'em up

He didn't own a TV set, didn't own a car
He ate what whatever Jack was makin' back behind the bar
They said he had a wife, but she left him in tears
He hadn't been home in twenty five years

Rack 'em up

They came from all over thinkin' they we're pretty hot
Put all their money on the table, wanna play the best we got
Nine in the corner, five in the side
Take a hundred dollar bill and just let it ride
I tell him listen son, ain't no disaster
There ain't no shame in being beat by a master

A local bar had this on their jukebox. When we would play league opponents out of that bar, my friend would always play this song.

There is another song

There is another song about pool, very similar but it goes into more detail about the old man. Seems like there are several more including a pretty good one by Johnny Cash from the movie The Baron and the Kid. Memory fails me. I can't remember enough to do decent searches.

nice. jonny's a good one..got tix to see him and a buncha other players later this year

Forewarning: He doesn't infuse very much blues music into his playlist now….and he plays very, very loud (even for my taste).

Maniac (still enjoyed his show)

FWIW, I bought that CD when it first came out.

He was 15 when he recorded that CD.

Likewise.
And that was what about 20+ years ago?!

How about Dirty Pool by Stevie Ray Vaughn. Not really a song about pool, he just references it in the song.

FWIW, I saw him front row in concert when the CD came out and he handed one to me from the stage :D

He was opening for Jr Brown in Tampa, and I was there waaaay early for whatever reason... it was a kind of bar type venue and I was hanging out at a table in the back until other people started coming in. And I saw this kid with long blonde hair, and I kept thinking to myself "who the hell is this little kid walking around like he owns the place messing around with a guitar that still has the price tags hanging off of it??" (I think I'm all of like 2 years older than him, BTW, we were both kids at the time). Then show starts and I eat my humble pie.

I've been a die hard fan ever since.

I liked Jonny Lang's first couple albums when he was a kid and saw him live a few times. His later stuff was more pop than blues and I didn't care for it as much. My wife & daughters still go see him when he is around though.

I heard that tune years ago, I even have it somewhere in my music collection
