Removing Glue From Carbon Fiber

Cuemakers,

I recently acquired a new Mezz Ignite cue shaft. I noticed a small drop of glue a few inches below the tip after removing it from the factory sleeve. I sent an e-mail to Mezz inquiring about their approved/recommended method for removing the wayward adhesive from the shaft. They replied with an apology and an image of of a knife held parallel with the shaft. They said to remove the glue gently with the knife. I would like to hear your thoughts/opinions concerning this or other ways to remove the glue.

You can safely remove CA on CF shafts with acetone.

Kim, is the De-bonder they sell actually Acetone?

I would not use acetone. I would use Nitromethane, which is a solvent for cyano / super glues, and is Not a solvent for epoxies. Then use a plastic scraper like an old credit card or similar to aid in cutting the glue off the shaft. The better super glue removers contain nitromethane.

Nitromethane from the hobby store also works the same.

I like the first suggestion; gently scrape it off with a sharp blade and wet sand spot if you have to followed by finishing compounds.

No acetone.

So I wanted to see if anything new has come up for getting glue off of a carbon fiber shaft, I have a revo and when the tip got installed it has some glue on the shaft and it drives me nuts.

Removed CA from more shafts than I can count. Acetone on a q-tip. Don't use more than you have to

I use acetone all the time for this, as stated, no more than what is needed on a Q-tip

Acetone worked perfect on my Revo thanks!!! I used a Qtip and it was very easy

I personally would NOT use a razor to remove a glue smudge. You will not be able to undo a gouge.....

Acetone is your ticket, Just Use good ventilation and gloves with acetone, it is a carcinogen

probably contains acetone as a constituent . might be cheaper since it's probaly cut with other chemicals

BSI has a glue remover called un-cure. It works good and I used it yesterday at a tourney.
