25.92 average over 7 parties!
February 10, 2019
In the beautiful Society of the Harmony in Groningen this weekend the Simonis billiard sheets NK Bandstocks Grand Ereklasse took place.
An event with a very interesting field of participants, with apart from recognized one cushion specialist Jean-Paul de Bruijn and the experienced Jos Bongers also young classic toppers such as Sam van Etten and Gert-Jan Veldhuizen.
Jean-Paul de Bruijn once again underlined what a great bastard he is. He won a general average of no less than 25.92 - a Dutch record! (The world record of Frederic Caudron of 27.27 remained in disarray, although the 25.92 was the highest average ever over 7 matches.)
Still, the championship was only decided in the last race. Sam van Etten and Jean-Paul de Bruijn both had their first six matches, but the seventh and last went convincingly in four innings to De Bruijn.
Van Etten, one of Holland's greatest classical talents, had to be satisfied with the second place, and was complimenteus to the winner afterwards. He called De Bruijn's record performance 'phenomenal'.
