Johnny, the person I see that is sticking their nose in everyone's business is YOU. You have been around here long enough to know that there is a hard rule against this sort of thing in someone's "for sale" thread, but yet you have done it over and over here, even after other members have reminded you of that rule.

Let me be the last one to "remind you". CUT IT OUT!

Oh whaaaa. I guess you showed me. So cute when people can’t handle their own business.

Couldn't of said it better myself!
I know that your comment was aimed at the op but I will offer my opinion.

He may not be as off on pricing as you might think since this cue has some sw upgrades that aren't cheap. Rings, slim handle and cocobolo wood are all extra $$$. Another big positive for this particular cue is that it's just under 19 oz which doesn't come up very often so for the right buyer this could be a real motivator.

And we have to add the value of the nice Centennial case that he's including, as well.

Secondary pricing on sw cues is fickle. A few years ago they shot into the stratosphere and in the last year or so while they've come down some they are still commanding pretty strong numbers.

Separately, and perhaps most importantly, there has been standing etiquette here on the For Sale Forum that we don't knock another member's sales threads. A seller can ask whatever they want and it's up to prospective buyers to understand what they're looking at and the market and to act accordingly. The only exceptions would be if you see someone misrepresenting or scamming; that sort of thing.

If you were actually interested to buy this cue and wanted to better understand the op's rationale for his pricing then shooting him a pm could both satisfy your curiosity and keep you from having to suffer through responses like mine. ;)

For the record, I think this sw is a beauty and wish the op glwys.

best,
brian kc

last time i talked with Laurie she told me coca bola was a good upgrade

I am sure nothing critical was meant by asking about the price
but I believe it is a private question

The market more or less determines values
but any seller can ask anything they want to

and a buyer can offer anything he wants(preferably in private)

These cues are so good and in such high demand that the prices
are high or at least higher than other cues
I personally think it is because they are the best cues ever made

Wait a few years and watch the prices rise

This cue is really pretty

It’s a question not a statement. I am curious even further. If you purchased this cue new what would it cost. I never put an order in with Laurie so I have no idea. I have to assume it’s not $6000. I am not knocking the thread. I am just curious how a price like this is justified.

That’s the question. Sure woods, rings etc but I have seen and purchased and possibly better hitting cues for a fraction of this price.

So please explain.

Market value, and availability. Have you any idea what the waiting period is on a new custom SW? Guys are on the list for years, so if you have one you're lucky. If you have an extremely nice one, you can ask what you want, believe me someone out there with the scoots will buy it.

Like Brian said, you are incorrect. There is a substantial upgrade charge for
cocobolo now, and an even more insane charge for ebony. I guess SW got tired
of the scalpers getting all the cash for doing less than jack $hit on their cues.

The price is largely justified in that people will pay a substantial surcharge to
not have to wait 13+ years now to get a SW cue.

If you don't want to pay the get it now price, then put in your order and wait.
Mine was ordered in 2005 and just this past February we worked out the details
and IF I'm lucky I might get it by Christmas. The insane upcharge for the ebony
on ebony is not making me very happy which is why I have nothing good to say
about the cue whores on here and Facebook that have created this mess.

Duane, to my knowledge has always been fair in dealing with his collection
unlike some of the Great A-holes who deal in SW.
I just commented on how just like in any commodity and collectible marketplace what people are willing to fork over for something is absolutely what drives the marketplace.

I've been collecting cues and guitars for over 30 years and the crash of 2009 caused a major rift in the vintage marketplace for guitars. The Asian financial market which was very strong at that time had dozens of buyers all over the US/Canada buying large collections of vintage instruments for 50 cents on a dollar or less. This destabilizes the entire vintage market and I along with many other investment collectors lost our ass.

Here we are almost 10 years later and the vintage marketplace hasn't recovered. It's slowly coming back up, but it could be another decade to just bring back to the pre-2009 values.

That same scenario can happen with corvettes, gold and just about any commodity. It's all based on what people are willing and continually willing to pay for that commodity that drives these markets.

How funny is it that rumor of a cuemaker retiring drives the values up. How about a HoF cuemaker who suddenly passes away?

1 of a kinds, limited runs, special editions, exotic materials, none of that matters in my opinion. Take for example some cuemakers out there who've made fabulous cues, but because of a bad marketplace or health issues or whatever they start falling behind on orders, not communicating with a customer, a bad experience reported from someone in social media, all of a sudden the cuemaker and his fabulous work have the Scarlet letter and the value of his cues go down. No one wants them anymore unless they really love the cue. Most are afraid they'll lose value and start dumping them for less than that normally would and that drives the entire marketplace on those makers cues down. Some never recover, some still pump out cues and JPs and repairs, but their reputation will never regain the momentum or stability they once had.

The exact opposite has happened with SW cues. I've never hit with one but have similar cues that people who owned or played with a SW said they're very similar. It's not the fanciest cue out there, it's wasn't the commercial name of say Meucci or Joss, but the word on how they're such great hitting cues just got out and when you couple that with a 13 year waiting list, prices skyrocket.

The million dollar question is, does is play any better now that it's valued so highly? It's such a subjective market, that I know guys who own SW cues and don't even like them. They're just waiting for the values to go even higher since they've tapered off a bit.
