Really, they have already changed. I was thinking about how pool was years ago,
and how people that didn't even play, knew of a few pool players, Miz, Mosconi
Fats, etc. Most people also knew the top players in a lot of sports, Golf, everyone
knew of Jack, Lee, Arnold, Gary Player, Ray Tom Watson and on and on.The
same with Tennis, McEnroe,Borg,Conners, Boxing,We knew the champions and
contenders in almost every division, Football, Baseball, Basketball. So I asked
people I work with if they could tell me the name of a current champion in any
sport, any sport. ZERO. Tiger Woods and the Williams sisters was the best any
could do. Most could not name one current baseball player, didn't know who won
the World Series, or even the Super Bowl for crying out loud. Some of them were
young, and have other interests, but quite a few were grown, with grown kids. It's
no surprise that pool has declined, But then I though, I can't name but a couple of
top tennis players (and have to really think about it) Boxing, Zilch, Golf, a few but
not many, and the same with all the others. Well I have so many things going on
now that I just don't keep up with sports like I used to. Well my parents had just
as much going on if not more but my Dad knew all about all sports, and my Mom
even knew quite a bit. We are raising our grandson, and I tell him all these stories
and the things we did and he just looks at me. I guess years from now he can
tell his grand kids, one time I killed fifty Zombies in one game.

What did you expect?
Did you wanted a lot of people to be glued to the television every single sports season to go through every detail about every team or sport? Isn't this what society wanted, to begin with (edit: to get away from television)?

Life moves on and changes occur. Get used to it and adapt to it...

In four countries I been to in the last 20 years....any time I talked to a Pinoy...
...NOT at a pool hall or pool venue...
...they were familiar with the name Efren Reyes...men and women....
...that's including all those who didn't play pool.

To be fair those times were back when american
television had 3 channels.

If you got on Ed Sullivan or Johnny Carson you
instantly became HUGE.

Too many more options with cable/ satellite. Then,
the internet and a much more connected world.

I believe George Carlin said the earth doesnt give a
$hi* about us. It was here way before us and will
take it back from us sooner rather than later.

Times will always change.

It was just an observation, I don't care. Every detail, about every sport ? Like who
won the Super Bowl ? I have to agree that only a avid sports analyst would have
access to information like that, or be glued to the TV their every waking moment.
Not me, thanks to you I'm going to adapt and move on.

there are many more events on tv nowadays and the players are not the type that most of us relate to or want to be like.

they have expanded the amount of teams vastly and events to make more money so be it. the avid sports fans still know all the details, but for the many of us that are only casual fans it doesnt pay to be fans at all.

Your right, its the options that technology has provided, the advances in every section of how we live. Spirit Airlines has tickets $55 dollar tickets, there's ride share apps that allow people who don't have a car to use one short term, no ones stuck taking the Greyhound anymore, there's a abundance of options that distract people from anything that isn't heavily marketed and Pool unfortunately isn't.

...You better start swimmin',
or you'll sink like a stone.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.

IMHO, I think professional sports as a whole is on the decline, I think a fair amount of the reason is that the average sports fans are not only resenting the salaries of todays athletes, but they grow weary of the domestic violence, drug arrests, and the overall pampering/coddling of todays athletes. Too much reporting/emphasis on the bad guys and not near enough on the good guys.

Eventually, people are going to tire of all this crap, in fact already have. Football is not the only sport with declining attendance/viewership, and I predict it may get worse before it gets better (with no help from the media because they HAVE to report sensationalism).

So it stands to reason that the average Joe on the street cannot name famous sports figures...they simply no longer give a sh*t.

The good thing, for pool anyways, is the leagues appear to be doing well. Both APA and BCA are killing it in my area and Lincoln City is growing like the weeds in my neighbors yard, my weeds are growing WAY faster by the way.

It's life man. It's how things roll. You can adapt, be holdout in whatever sport you love that is dying, you can hang on to the old and embrace the new, you can embrace the new and mock the old, you can embrace the old and mock the new.

Life is what YOU make it.

And if you're going to ***** about something then do something, don't be whiner.

To me there is Dylan, and then everyone else.
There is Ali, and then everyone else.
There is Efren, and then everyone else.
Oh yeah, and, there is Deanoc and then everyone else.

May your heart always be joyful
May your song always be sung, and
May you stay forever young

You're not the first to take notice, nor was Bob Dylan. Heraclitus, the Greek philosopher, said in about 500 BC that “Change is the only constant in life.”

And Solomon, who was said to have been the wisest man on Earth , said that there is nothing new under the sun.
They make it mighty hard to keep current.
Earth goes around sun , sun goes around earth , earth around sun, make up your minds!
Then there is the fact that Bob Dylan made references in an interview that he had made a deal with the devil for fame and fortune, so , were the words even his?
I just heard an old song by Zager and Evans the other day called "In the Year 2525", who knows?

In my younger years I was really invested in what was going on in professional sports. As I've aged I realized that ultimately I was wasting my time watching grown men and women live their lives and I was neglecting my own. I very rarely spend time watching games and I absolutely do not care who wins or loses. It just doesn't concern me any longer.
