Sealing Zebrano

I have a customer which fell in love in a Zebrano pice I had lying and I'm working on a cue for him now. I core it with maple and all the rest and now I'm heading up to make inlays and the bells and whistles.

Anyway - as you know the wood has fairly open pores and I was just wondering if some of my friends up here has sealed this wood with good results and in case which product would you recommend ?
Compared to for instance African Blackwood this Zebrano is not even close to being smooth when machined...

Have a great weekend.

Are you talking about zebra wood? I just made a cue with a zebra wood handle for a guy and i sanded it with 320 and got it as smooth as possible. Then i gave it a couple coats of deft sanding sealer. Then i lightly sanded with 320 again. Then i applied my epoxy finish and it turned out great.

You have to really seal zebra wood well before you finish it.

I use 5 minute epoxy and really rub it in hard to seal the grain. Sand it with 220 the next day and finish it.
