Looking to see what players think of the UPA? A new league is starting up and I really can not find anything on AZ to the pros and cons of it. Thanks.

Mostly like TAP. Similar rules 8 ball. Call shots. Biggest difference between UPA and other leagues is the ranking system. Once you get a ranking you do not go down. If you are a five and lose a bunch of matches you stay a five. In other leagues if you keep losing you will go down in rating.
This is designed to avoid sandbagging to get your rating lower.

They have a national tournament in Vegas. It is at a pool hall, not in a casino. Unless your league is really big your get no financial assistance to get to the nationals. This means you could spend more to get to and play in the nationals than you could possibly win.

I shoot in the UPA. It's called pockets, no slope. I like it better than the others.

I've seen raised players go back down in my league. I've also seen a guy take a session off that was a 3 and when he came back was a 2 lol.

Also the rankings go from 2-10 instead of 7 or 8 in most leagues.

So sandbagging isn't beneficial in the league. That takes alot of the strategy of the APA out of it doesn't it. Are the payouts better? That is what is important, they claim to be a money league.

The scoring is different for sure. Can't recall the guys name that own's the whole UPA but he is a pro player and he created this SLR scoring that is his baby. It doesn't go by innings, it goes by every shot. Every ball made, miss, foul, safety and all.

One plus that I love, but sorta hate because I want to kill my teammates half the time, is that in the UPA, the player is the only person that can call a time out. No other teammate can call it.

It is a money league, but the payouts I would presume would be made out from the league operator that owns the area you're playing in. I guess it also depends on how many teams you have.

My area only has 5 teams, so payouts aren't the best, but I've made money every session I've played in.

I wish I had the opportunity to play UPA. Everything I have read about them seems good. Unfortunately there are only two major options for me in my area and that is TAPS or APA

Haha so Sandbagging is strategy? I call it cheating and essentially what kills league pool lol

Payouts would depend on the number of teams. The more teams the more money in the pot. Just remember that none of the UPA leagues in my area pay anything for a team to go to the nationals.
No one is allowed to say anything to the players during their match. You cannot say foul, or ball in hand. Only the players are allowed to ask to someone to watch a hit. No talking to your player while he is not at the table.
Each player gets one time out. Only the players may ask for the time out. Someone on the side may not ask if a player wants a time out.
