BCAPL and International Players..

I saw firsthand, a Taiwan player, beating Danny Smith quite handily in the challenge room. He was on a team of players that had Taiwan Typhoon on their shirts. I had to assume that this player I watched was a Master player but heard through the grapevine he was the same person who won the "OPEN" event. Not sure of what his name was, otherwise I would know for sure. Wayne (can't remember last name) won the OPEN. 2nd place was also a player from Taiwan, I beleive a teammate. I'm not 100% sure if these 2 players were together, somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

My question is, who monitors International players? This same thing happened a couple years ago with players from Portugal. In the USA we know who the players are and pretty much know there ability. This doesn't seem to be the case for Intl. players.

Another couple rumors I heard, these 2 players were not paid, due to them being too good for open players? If so, where did the payout go for 1st and 2nd place?
The Taiwan team was forced to play in the Advanced when it was noticed how good they placed in singles?
Can anybody chime in on this info?

I read the other thread, I know their team got bumped up to Advanced due to their high finishes in the Open Singles.

I'm aware of how to qualify for BCAPL and what constitutes a Open, Advanced, Master player. My main question is I suppose, who keeps tabs on the International players? This theme seems to be repeating.

Don't get me wrong, I had a great time and finished 49th in the Open Singles myself. I did not play either of these 2 players during the tournament. I lost to a couple of good players and they will be bumped up to Advanced due to their higher finish. I was hoping to get bumped up myself but fell just short. Maybe next year?

I do feel bad for any players who possibly lost hill/hill to these guys. If they didn't belong in the Open, it really changes the whole perspective of the tournament. We can't go back and play it over, so it sucks to anybody who got knocked out by these guys.

Is there any truth to their checks being withheld? Anybody know? I can't imagine the BCAPL doing that, but a firm slap on the wrist should be issued. JMHO

League

I thought you had to play in BCA league to even be considered for the Open division? Having these guys play as open players seems a little wacky to me, as it obviously leaves it wide open for players from throughout the world to rob the tournament and penalizes good players who have been bumped up to advance because of their known ability playing in BCA leagues.

I did not have to play any of these guys, I managed to dog the two matches I lost in, in an extremely schitzophrenic tournament outing for me. Finished 129th.

BCAPL Nationals - Today, 04:31 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Watchez,

I appreciate your comments.

First the dates: The move to the Rio was not done without serious consideration. Most players and teams are embracing the changes. Those that are not happy about the changes have mostly come around when they understand the facts.

The rates will be attractive (they will be published in July sometime) and there are a lot of advantages for the Rio. Too many people are talking about something without really knowing the facts.

There are a lot of reasons for moving and we expect to have 40 dedicated mini tournament tables + more practice tables. Plus free shuttle to strip.

We are sorry July mights not work out for some - but it is only a week and I honestly feel that any who go from a 6,500 man event to an 800 man event will be VERY disappointed.

Besides, there are other things that might be happening in May that are a better option.

We will be releasing the FACTS in the near future.

2nd: I would like to hear Mark G. words on the Taiwanese situation before I comment.

We will be releasing a statement after we get the office back together - since right now everything is in boxes. Should be about a week or maybe touch longer. I talked with many of the affected parties and told them middle of next week or so. They were OK with that - so I think that all others should be to.

I am not planning on responding to a lot of opionions and suggestions at this time - we have work to do to get back up and running.

So - lets try to keep the speculation to a minimum.

Mark G.,

First off, I want to thank you and the CSI crew and anybody else that helps pull off this great event each year. Seriously, 6,000 plus pool players and you guys have everything organised beautifully. We even get texts before and after each match.

I know you can't keep tabs on the whole world and it's very sad that some folks take advantage of it. I'm glad your crew is looking into these matters and hopefully come up with a good resolution.

Let us know what you find out and decide to do. I'm looking forward to playing at The Rio next year, my wife and I already went there and picked up players cards to get promos in the mail.

In a perfect world everything would be perfect, fair, and never would a mistake be made. In defense of Mark and his team of people who put on this event. They try do do the best they can.

I don't play league, don't play 8 ball, and made the trip to Sin City a could of time to watch the event. I don't do Sin City no more because we got Casino in the Valley of the Sun.

But like I said In defense of Mark and his team of people who put on this event. They try do do the best they can.

According to ctsondemand, this team and the players in question played in the Nationals in 2011. If I'm reading the results wrong, or last years results aren't accurate then correct me.

In 2011, the team came in 13-16th in Team 8-ball Mixed Advanced Division (8MAT). With last year's strong finish last year, unless petitioned, why wasn't the team's application for 8MOT granted, and not automatically re-assigned to 8MAT?

As for the one of the disqualified players for this year Men's Open Single (8MOS). Last year when he played Men's 8-ball Advanced Singles (8MAS) and came in 49th-64th.

Also, according to the link on the Masters requirement page, if you come in 9th-48th in the Open Singles, you get placed in the Advance division for the following year. Unless petitioned, shouldn't the spirit of this apply?

If a petition was granted, then taking away the prize money would be unfair. If you received a ruling, would it be fair to change it on you after you win?

Rain Chiang, who's listed as being on their open team last year, got seriously into the money in the pro 10-ball this year, beating Corey Deuel, among others. Last year, another guy on their team, who's better than Rain Chiang, was holding court in the action room 24/7 and beating everybody in sight. One of the best players I've ever seen.

I have to ask, and it may be stereotyping. Was he using a Southwest, and did it come with a Predator FAT shaft?

No clue. Couldn't stop watching the kid shoot and didn't notice the stick. He was shortish, slightly built and couldn't have been more than 22, maybe even younger.

Same Team Name in 2011, but different players than in 2012.
