The number one player in the country returns to Salt City Billiard to take on Shaun Wilkie in a 10 ball match, race to 11 alternating break format. Shaun has a very good record in matches versus SVB, so we know this will be a great match. They are betting at least $2000, which will no doubt increase by match time. Play starts at 5:30, but please arrive early if you want a good seat. This is free to watch in person. Available to watch on live stream from TV Mike.

The action match will be followed by the Salt City Billiards Open IV which draws many of the best players from around the country and Canada who travel in for the Turning Stone Classic. Other pro players will attend. This is also free to watch in person. Available to watch on live stream from TV Mike.

In addition to the pro/amateur event we will again host bar table 9 ball mini tournaments all night long. Last event we did this for the first time and they were a blast. We had several players enter multiple times and make some nice money. We ran 7 full 8 player brackets last time. It is a great format.

PLEASE SHARE THIS POST so we can get a bunch or players and spectators to attend.

As always, thank you for helping to keep pool alive and well locally.

"Shaun has a very good record in matches versus SVB" ?????? Does this mean he almost won once?

They're betting on this and playing even? Ok.

Apparently they're playing even but I know Shaun knows better than to bet his own money in that game. He's a great player and one of the nicest people in the game, but he's a huge underdog and everyone knows it.

Would like to see the local boy win, but if I was betting it would be on Shane.

Alternating break makes this much closer.

Shaun has beaten SVB the majority of their matches.

Lastly every person here and elsewhere said Earl couldn't win our August 2018 match....he won convincingly 11 to 7. Anybody betting there would have cleaned up.

People may bet the line anywhere they choose to draw it...which is why pool should be the easiest thing to bet on.

These guys all need to matchup more. Good for them, us and the game.

I have seen them play at least a dozen times & Shane won every time

I would suggest watching the event and enjoying it.
Look at what happened with that Mosconi Cup thing?
Nobody wins until it is over.
Pool, like life, is never a certainty.

Rather than two men of equal skill putting up their own money
in a gambling set, this sounds like a sponsored exhibition.

If it’s a bar box and alternate break, maybe a bit more competitive?

So, if you like pool and want to watch a couple guys that play it well,
it could be cheap entertainment.

Fargo has Shaun at 10% chance playing even

10%?
So would you bet your 900 to my 100?

No bigger lie in the world than statistics. Particularly something with such small sample size as pro pool. I would like to see any proof that Fargo predicts outcomes reliably.

The range of possible outcomes is great in pool. Guy breaks better, rolls lucky once or twice...it is over.

No, I wouldn’t.
I also don’t gamble with those strange to me.

But if this is on big table and I was a betting man
my friends could get 2/1.

I enjoy watching both men play and Shaun is a fine player.
That said, Shane is world class and Shaun is a shortstop.

2 to 1 you will get action.

All these guys need to play more.

We worked to get several players in the box. No easy task for a multitude of reasons.

Not that hard to make a game...its yes or no and heads or tails.

Wish I lived close, I would definitely watch.
Sweat bet with my friends and enjoy the show.

I commend you on setting it up.
I commend Shaun for getting in the box.

I think these kinds of matches are good for the “hall” and
pool in general.

Who doesn’t love to watch the local guy beat down the champs!

I’ve watched several from my area play Shane,Efren, Busty, etc.

Some have even won a lil’ cash.

I think Shane is a big favorite, a 2/1 favorite at least.

I don’t know you and don’t care to bet on a game that
I’m not playing in or at least have a great deal of insight on.

Iirc mike page did a Fargorate vs actual outcome in a
Big pro tournament( u.s. open 9ball maybe?) and it was
very accurate.
Maybe he will chime in and refresh my memory.

Shane has 13,615 games in the system
Shaun has 7,907.
Doesn’t seem like their grasping at straws.

In our little event a year back Hatch and Immonen lost to guys who are strong AA...no where near short stop level.

Last Turning Stone 2 regional guys I know well beat Strickland and the prior event champion Thorpe.

Upsets happen. One of the main reasons we don't see more is the lack of real incentive for advanced amateurs to play in big pro events.

I beat a 700 9-0 in a tourney once and that is 100pt over my (100 game, but pretty accurate rate, given the company I know in that zone)...so upsets do happen.

But it would be a pretty good bet to always take the higher rates player.

Bumping this up for those who may not be aware. 2 says until the SVB vs Wilkie race to 11 for the cash and our 4th pro amateur event with many great players. All lice streamed by TV Mike. If you come we also have 8 player bar table mini tournaments as long as there are participants.
