Thirteen days after his remarkable Sunday, August 11, performance in the Verhoeven semi-finals and final, Eddy Merckx continued his blistering hot play in the Survivor Tournament Finals. The contest is divided into two 45 minute halves. His opponents were Roland Forthomme, Haeng Jik Kim and Jae Cho. Eddy came out with guns blazing, running a 12 in his second inning and a 15 in his fourth. With this format, Mr. Kim was relegated to spectator status for the remainder of the first half after his fourth inning. Furthermore, for the remainder of the first half, billiards were now worth two points instead of three. The first half ended with Eddy light years ahead. Only a miracle would leave the outcome in doubt. That miracle did not occur and Eddy won by a wide margin. There was some drama late, when Kim rallied furiously in his final three innings to garner second place. Eddy won $50,000 while Kim took home $21,000. Third place was $18,000 and fourth was $15,000. Eddy averaged 3.133 for the match.
