Scotch doubles - who shoots after pushout?

Playing Scotch doubles at 10 ball. After a push-out is handed back to the other team which one of them shoots? The guy who made the push-out or the other player on their team? Question came up last night. They asked us before making the push-out. Their stronger player was making the shot and obviously felt more confident in where he was putting the ball if it was coming back to him rather than his partner.

I don't play Scotch often, but when i do it is usually 8 ball.

Oh, good question, got my very first SD 9 ball tournament in one week. Good to know this before hand ??

For a principle standpoint, I'd say the person who pushed stays at the table, as it's part of the same shot, no ??

To me...it's alternating shots...the other partner shoots.
If the other side disagrees, it's time to lay your cue on the table and get it straight.

FWIW I thought it should have went to their other shooter, they and my partner thought the player making the push should shoot next. Small money game (we lost to boot), not sore about it, just would like to know general consensus for next time.

I have played Scotch doubles very rarely...when I did it was usually for cash.
To me, Scotch doubles is ALTERNATING SHOTS.
Why should that be suspended for one shot.

When it came up, I won the argument...
...not the first time I disagreed with a set of rules.

Rules should be consistent and make sense.

Fwiw, I've played it both ways. It should be made straight right at the onset.

I hear ya PT, but one could argue the "push out" is not a shot, otherwise it would be called a "shoot out", and from someone from Chicago, I know what a shoot out is ;)

But the shot is not over, until the other team shoots...no?

That is Lily something that must be decided before play the Talk. Has does the open the oil at the beginning of each game or no last shooter from prior game become ineligible to shoot first the next game.

.

This one made me stop and think.....seems like a good point....
...so if gambling....I guess it's has to be discussed and agreed on.

I'm not going for "Them's the rules".....hell, the official rule at 9-ball used to be...
...."If you knock an object ball off the table, it's re-spotted...no penalty."
....I didn't go for that one either....except in tournaments.

Good one, B-B....
...well, except for your auto-correct disaster in the second paragraph....:thud:

According to the Original Rules, the "push out" is a turn. Either the incoming player or the teammate.

You just triggered my imagination, RJ....( I played at Bensinger's a couple times)
...so you say "Shoot again."...and the guy kills another spectator....
