Long Cue Shafts - 10-12-2019, 07:24 PM

What are long cue Shafts used for?

I bought a McDermott D-21 Shaft off of Fleabay.
It is 30 5/8” long. Compared to the “normal” 29”.

Why are some Shafts longer?

I’ve read that more people are asking for 30” Shafts nowadays.

Hmmmm. I wonder why that could be?

I have always wondered why they make cues and shafts in different weights and diameters too.

Seems to me that everybody should just play with the exact same equipment whether it 'fits' them or not.

I’m not saying their needs to be a set standard but....
Aren’t “most” cues 58”? 29” x 29”?
So if the butt is 29”, why do some current players “want” a 30” Shaft?

Why not a 30” Shaft and a 30” butt?
or a 31”/32”/33” shaft on a 29” butt?

And..... thickness and taper of the butt, taper of the shaft, total weight, forward/rear balance is not what I am asking about.
I can reason why their are different preferences for those areas.
My question is only for the shaft length.

Sometimes people are ready to pounce on any question, without reading the question.

I got it off off Fleabay as explained in the OP.
There was no mention of the longer length in the listing.

Any answers to my question?

I answered you, longer cue using an existing 29" butt.

Put the pipe down, you have had enough.

Not a real answer.

Because it makes it easier to reach the cue ball would be an answer.

If you order a custom cue that is 59" then i would expect a 29 1/2 split. If you have a 29" butt and want a 59" cue then you need an after market 30" shaft. Its nice to have an extra inch its also nice to have a slightly more forward balanced cue.

Hey fellow!!!!!

You need to stop using commonsense. It will confuse the rest of us.

Jeff

I knew a fellow that thought he was a good boxer because he was in a position to befriend a lot of "professional boxers". It cost him azzwhippens till he realized he wasn't what he thought/wished he was.

Do you know anyone like the "wannabe" boxer in the pool world?
