APA e-mails are up, is the APA in trouble? - 11-05-2019, 09:42 AM

I have started to recieve about 7 e-mails a month from the APA, which is basically up 2100%. I don't necessarily want to stop receiving emails completely (which is the only option I have left), so should I weather this out? If the APA is in trouble, I get it, but if they're not then I'm spamming these, especially since I don't play in it anymore (but have friends who do and like to see how they're doing sometimes).

I'd die laughing if they were in trouble. They receive 20% of your weekly dues and pay out a fraction. You local league operators are all driving BMW's. Be sure they tell you thanks

I think APA is just trying to communicate more, now that they have a bigger presence on mobile devices with the app and soon-to-be electronic scoring. You might contact them and let them know if you think it's too much, as I think they're trying to find a good balance.

APA is making money, League Operators are making money, Players are "supporting pool". Everyone feel good about those ideas?

Then the system is working If nobody makes any money then there won't be any leagues to play in. I hope my pool room owner drives a BMW or Lexus, it means his business is viable and staying in business, good for him.... No, good for us

Are no more leagues really that bad? Replace them with local events and tournaments. I'd take a local / national pool tour over leagues.

This is more likely to be an indication that they are becoming more successful and have hired someone competent and aggressive to do their email marketing.

Yes, no more leagues really are that bad, for me and 80 or so folks that play in our league weekly. Nearest pool hall is almost an hour from me. The bars that have 2 or 3 tables where we play our league matches would not be a venue for hosting a tourney or event.

I'm with you on this although I don't think it is viable.
Most weekly tournaments that start at 4pm
dont end until 10ish.
Most that start at 7-7:30 dont end until 1:30am or later.
Big tour events start at 12pm and go until 2am or sometimes much later.
Playing good pool for 6-8 hours or 14+ hours and
eating greasy food while drinking alcohol dont go together.

On the other hand playing mediocre to crappy pool while
having some laughs and good conversation with friends
or co- workers, while drinking and having some greasy goods go together like a fat kid and cake.

Those people keep the room in buisness.

I say all room owners should keep the tables in the
best shape possible.
Keep all bangers and greasy food eaters in a different
room or section.( like the old smoking sections)
Or just keep them away entirely.
Hold good tournaments every night and big ones
once or twice a month. All with good added money.
Waitress' to not look at me sideways when I order water
and ask for a fruit and veggie platter
And just take the loss, I mean come on. Pool players
deserve at least that much don't we?
Earl says its the hardest game in the world, we should
treat it as such

yes, it would be bad. because 90% of those league players are not coming to tournaments on Fri and Sat night. That's a lot of folks NOT spending money on pool and soon finding something else to do. I don't even like weekend tourneys, they just take too long and I really don't want to be up till 1 or 2 in the morning to be honest.

They get out on a Mon thru Thurs when nothing is going on, hang with friends, and support pool.

They are the ones keep the pool rooms open. Oh, those Sat tourneys will NOT keep the place open by having tables sitting there all week and nobody using them. Yeah, the owner will really love that. And when he doesn't put money in the kitty for the Saturday tourney, folks will b1tch about that. So, he's got to pay for the privilege of folks showing up for a tourney. And when the 2 and out, they are not spending much money.

They are using Constant Contact for their email marketing. And it does not seem to be too aggressive.
