Can a Schmelke Brass Joint be replaced with a normal pin?

Is it worth the cost?

Accept for the ugliness.....Does the Brass Joint play any different from a pin?

Is it worth it?
Cost effective?
Well, that depends on how you feel about the cue. The joint on the butt is held on by a standard 5/8x18 thread. That's the easy part.
It will play different. Weight distribution will be different. Blending a different finish than what Schmelke uses could be a pain. If you really want the change, Ask Schmelke first because of finish alone.
Or....
You could leave the joint as is and machine it flat faced and install a G10 or Aluminum 3/8x10.

What Mike said. I'd also add, for the cost you are going to put into the cue changing the joint, you are well on your way to the cost of a new cue from Schmelke. And they have 3/8-10 as a joint option now. So if you're not hung up on this cue for sentimental reasons, call Schmelke and get a new one made.
