Cognoscenti Thread Tap 7/16x11

I'm looking for someone that can change the threads on a couple carbon fiber shafts from radial to 7/16x11.

I know this can be done by live threading the shaft using the pin that is in the butt of the cue. Is this the preferred method or is using a tap better?

Anyone have a tap for the old Cog pin?

I think you don`t understand what live threading is.
Live threading does not involve the pin that`s in your cue. Live threading is done with a single pitch threadmill of the apropriate size, held in a router and mounted to the tool post. You use the threading capabilities of the lathe and select the right pitch, then feed in (or out) and cut the threads. Done right, this method is very precise and creates very crisp threads with no tearout.
Having said that, a 7/16-11 tap can easily be ordered online.

Have you tried that tap that's offered? Cognoscenti joint screws are not 7/16 (.437) x11. They're not even close. Just curious how good the fit is? Proper fit or Hula dance wiggle?? Revo shafts are also .842. Cognoscenti is a little larger but people tend to live with that.

That looks nothing like the 7/16-11 tap. Is that pin ACME thread?

Tap Outside/Major Diameter = .410"
Joint Screw Outside Diameter = .400"
Those are Genuine Joe Gold Joint Screws :wink:

Well this has been educational. Even after reading the description I am still having a hard time visualizing the live threading process, but it's definitely not what I was thinking.

Anyway, thank you to everyone for all the information.

I am NOT NOT a cue maker.. But I DO know Joepretty darn well. He told me himself that Alton made cue caps for him in the past.. SO I would tend to agree with his statements about the pin size Joe uses...

Would you be able to tap a carbon fiber shaft for a Cognoscenti cue for me? Sorry, I would have messaged you, but I didn't see the option.

Any competent cuemaker with live threading capabilities and the pin specs will be able to do this in less than half an hour. It's an easy job, don't get gouged on the price.
