during a recent ranking snooker tournament in Cardiff a local commentator said that Michaela will not act as a referee any more. Neither in snooker, nor in pool! His exact words were "her career has been ended" - as if to underline it was not her own will. Also he mentioned something about Barry Hearn with this regard.

Any proof? Insights?

Sounds to me like, that with her "celebrity" status as a premier referee worldwide for the WPA, the Mosconi Cup, the Professional Snooker Tour, and Bonus Ball, she has been able to generate more income as a special events referee, than "working for the man"! LOL I certainly hope so...she's earned it, and is great at what she does!

I would say so Scotty. UTube has a short Doc on her. How she started etc. Very interesting.

Hope that it was a poor choice of wording on the commentators part and it's nothing bad.

They were politely adoring of me and respectfully clean, asking if I wore Christian Louboutin shoes. It’s funny the perception that people have. For me it would be a dream to wear Louboutins – they’re £500 a pair and I don’t have that kind of money.”

Not that it matters but, if she wanted to Market her image, she could, or should be wearing that type of clothing for free for the type of exposure that she would obviously be giving the manufacturers.

If a Pro Player in the UK could do it, why not a Ref of her stature. She gets approx as much exposure on the telly as any of the players do.

Just have to slip the camera men a few extra to pan in on her feet a few times.

who fkn cares, she's a ref for pete's sake. ever lose any sleep when a mlb ump or nfl ref was gone? in my opinion refs/umpires should be invisible if they're doing the job right. if she's getting press as a ref she needs to GO.

What you posted is 100% true. But Mich, has gained her popularity for being a women, a Women Ref and considered the best in the business, her looks etc, all three combined, it is what it is at the moment.

She is and has been in the spot light for some time. So, can't change that anytime soon.

Last I checked, she was pretty easy on the eyes. An attractive
women isn't going to be invisible to any man, no matter what
field she chooses as a career. She is obviously good at what
she does, but she also has the look. The looks of a woman can
take her places a less attractive woman can't go in my opinion.

All that being said, I'm still unsure of the reasons that she may
not be refereeing future events that the OP was refering to.

Along the same lines you're mentioning, NBA refs are the worst
and college basketball refs are almost as bad. Whistles get blown
when a player is not even touched! I can't and won't even watch it,
it's so bad. It takes your brain a half second to a second to process
whether a foul or contact occours and these pathetic refs are blowing
the whistle on the assumption there's a foul or about to be a foul.
They should blow whistles at least one second after contact occurs
so it gives their brains time to process the visual that the just seen.
Funny thing is, the very next trip or 2 down court a guy can literally
get mugged, slapped, punched in the face, and there's not a whistle
to be located in the entire arena for Christ's sakes...........................
...........................................................................................................
................................sorry about the rant, this subject is one of my
pet peeves. Sorry to you too, OP, didn't mean to derail the thread.

I feel that it is unfair to compare cue sport referees to referees of action sports such as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, etc. I think Michelle is one of the most popular (if not the most popular) cue sport referee because she is an attractive woman in a field where not a lot of women exist. I'm perfectly fine with the extra attention she gets due to her gender and appearance. However, I can't say that I think she is any better at being a referee than her male counterparts.

I, like many others, would miss looking at her if she didn't ref any longer. But I don't think it would affect the quality of matches at all.

I swear, I had nothing to do with it, we just posed for a picture, nothing happened.

Dennis taylor says 'she makes very few mistakes, does our Michaela' every single bloody time. Drives me nuts.

I've yet to see her have to make a decision to get wrong. Besides, nobody can replace Len Ganley.

Very few mistakes for sure, but this one's a classic...probably been posted somewhere before...

Seriously, though, I've used this clip in training for years to demonstrate one of the the things that is the cause of the HUGE majority of mistakes in application/mechanics in officiating and, in the safety world, accidents in general - The Distraction.

Michaela's Distraction was the disturbance in the crowd. The rest just followed. Doesn't matter whether it's ships colliding at sea or just tripping over a crack in the sidewalk, you can bet The Distraction was there.

Then again, Michaela herself can certainly be a distraction...

IMHO Michaela's notoriety is because of how well she handles unruly crowds and players, not simply because she's a woman.

Judgement, commanding voice and perfect timing combine to make her an authoritative presence. Perhaps her earlier career was as a nun in a Catholic school. :D
