OK .. pretty much decided on this as the brand to look too, so ...

minor question:
Other than the obvious, what's the difference between the red-dot ($10) and red-circle ($20) cue balls?

Now the sets.

Aramith Premium - $150

What makes one set worth twice or 3x more than the other? In general the ones I'm going to purchase will be used for league night - and my own personal use. I can tell the difference between using an old coin-op cue ball and my red-circle; but other than that I don't have much experience or knowledge on the rest of it. Any input is valued: Thanks folks.

I prefer the old school premier set,in look and playability
I bought a new set off eBay for 70 free shipping

The way I play, I play better on those than I do on newer sets

That's me though, I suck

I would suggest the aramith super pros for personl use, but if they are going to be used out n about, you balls will be at the mercy of others.

Table condition, other people...you lose a lot of conrtol over what will happen to your balls ann it would suck balls to have your pretty balls bruised up though no fault of Your own.

Unless you have a table at home, i say go standard.

Buy from reputable source. There has been much talk of fakes out there.

If you are going to be using them for league, you may want to think about the tables you are playing on. Some have bad pockets where the metal is showing and will put cuts in the balls when it hits, on bar tables you need to make sure the balls will go through the system fine, especially the cueball which may need to be magnatic or weighed or sized differently.

As far as what sets to get, the Premier or Premium are good, the Pro Cup are pretty much top of the line along with the Tournament set, but really anything in the mid range is very good quality and will last for a while. The better balls sets have better quality control as far as size and weight matches and are made of more durable materials.

Premiums have a different feel to me. Cue ball seems dead a little. I played with them for six years around. Much happier with my tv balls.

The main difference is the material used to make them and the method of making them.

The other big difference is how the match the set. On higher end balls, they match the set based on weight and other measurements to make sure every single ball is within .001 (I believe) tolerance of each other.

The Aramith Super Pros are the lowliest set I would buy

The only Aramith balls to buy are their premium "Tournament". Otherwise buy the Diamond "Cyclops".
After RKC recovered my table, he told me that the Aramith super pros are one of the worst out there. I knew that I felt powder or grit on them after 3-4 hours of play, but just assumed that was chalk. He told me that is the finish grinding off as they are poor construction. I traded those off and bought the Cyclops balls and they are great. No grinding or powder on those! They are constructed just as the Brunswick "Centennials" were years ago before they went to crap too.
