Hi,

Don't know much about the wooden joints but the Schuler carom cue has a brass and aluminum piloted joint collar set up with a flat face. Very popular carom cues world wide.

Different cuemakers use different threads on the wooden pins. Just like different cuemakers use different threads for metal pins.

1/2-8 is one of the most popular, but there are many different wooden threads.

Helmstetters/Adams are 1/2-10, at least in the 3 I have. Dieckman used 1/2-8 at least early on.

I think that's part of your problem. These threads are often live tooled, so looking for a standard tap might not be the right way to go about it. But if it's a standard thread pattern like UNC or Metric coarse thread, it easy to find out, all you need is a thread pitch gage, they cost less than $10
