Trying to find price range

Hi everyone, I used to play casually 15+ years ago, recently just started playing again, I was given a used cue by my dad who got it from a tenant that left it in his apartment but I personally have no way of telling if its any good, or its price range, if its worth keeping.

It definitely needs some maintenance, but if its a cheap one then I wont bother.
If anyones able to tell me, that would be appreciate, thanks.

RiverCity beat me to it and he's correct. But, sometimes something handed down to you from your father may hold more value to you. Me personally, would toss it. Welcome to the forum.

Hi, welcome to the forum. The cue you have is not worth anything. It was probably $30 brand new. You could get an equivalent new one on Amazon for less than a new tip and rewrap would be for the current one.

If you want a new low cost cue, but decent quality today, CueTech is pretty good for about $100-$200. If you want a step up, Schmelke, Joss, McDermott, Viking, are all American brands that are about $200 for the plain cues, and up to about $500-1000 for the very fancy cues.

And if you think you might be super serious about the game, the rage these days are carbon fiber cues. They are all about $400 to $500 for only the shaft, and the butt end of the cue can be anything. Brands there are Predator Revo (the leader), CueTech Cynergy, BeCue Prime, Meucci, and a couple more I forget now.

Good luck!

When shopping for a new cue, you may want to consider a wrapless butt. Going wrapless you'll never have to worry about cleaning or repairing the linen wrap. My last playing cue I had a leather wrap put on instead of replacing the linen wrap and cost a couple hundred. I thought I had the best put the wrap on, but part of the seam stuck out a hair and when gripping the cue it annoyed me. The best cue repairman can have bad days. I ended up buying a wrapless and won't be having anymore needs for those kind of costs and poor repairs. Good luck

I didn't pay anything for the cue, all the white is ivory, but did pay for the wrap. This actually use to be my break cue. I had a custom cue made that was my player that looked like this one, but had a lot more work in it, including ivory joint and a bunch of other stuff. The ivory joint kept cracking, so got rid of it.

If you send me a Private Message, I have a very nice package of a cue and case for you that I was planning to sell for only $60 plus shipping. The cue is a Canadian made Dufferin in nearly new condition with a nice box case that will hold one cue and two shafts plus accessories . The case was made for Muelllers billiards by the Huebler billiard company. Both the cue and case are much better quality than anything you could buy new for $200 today. They would be great for you to begin your journey back into pool!

Don't toss it just yet! Why not just use it for a break cue? It will probably work just fine for that.
