lol...9 ball APA can get very screwy at times especially for being a higher handicap. Trying to get to 65 before a person gets to like 31 who has the ability to occasionally runout or hooks me when they miss can be brutal if I am not making a ball on my break to at least control the beginning of a game to an extent.

That's what I've found out too. I'm a 6 close to a 7 in 9, and it seems since I moved to a 6 I either win 16-4 or 15-5 or lose 15-5 14-6. If my break drops one or two and at least gives me a safe option, I will more than likely dominate a 5 or lower. When my break isn't working or I rattle a 7 or 8 ball, I can get in trouble. Back when I first started, I loved playing 8s and 9s because our 8 footers have stingy pockets, so if they rattle one and I run the last three and then make a ball on the break, I could easily beat an 8 or 9. Hard to win going to 55, 65 or 75 if you are only winning a rack 6-4.

+1000 to this...so true. It makes the break so huge. Even playing as a 7 in 8 ball can be brutal playing 5s that I spot 2 games that play just a bit under than me. If I don't win that first game its now a 5-2 race yikes.

Our newly minted 3 (was a 2 earlier this session) got a 9-ball break and run on a 7' Diamond Coin-Op. I don't think I've seen a 3 get a BNR before, anybody else?

I have not seen a legit 3 do it. People do get lucky sometimes and things work out, but 9 balls in a row on a tight corner pocket Diamond is HIGHLY unlikely for a player of that caliber even if all the balls were sitting within a foot of a pocket. :)

my g/f is a legit 3. probly the worst 3 in league. heck i think she really oughta be a 2. if you bet me 1,000.00 to my 100.00 that she could take bih and run 2 balls i would not take that bet.

however ...one night she had a break and run in 9 ball on a 9' table and we only play on 9's twice a session.

i said it before....its frustrating how inconsistent my game is.

i faced a 7 in 8 ball last night and lost 4-1. i blew several opportunities to win due to poor shooting. i missed several shots i should not miss.

45 minute later i faced the same 7 in 9 ball. did not miss a single shot that i should make and won 46-38.

i was going to play in a jack and jill vegas qualifier today but my partner had to cancel due to some family issues that arose. so i am going to hi pockets and watch the pros play instead. i watched some last night in between my matches. archer was playing pretty good and saez was having a bad game like i do occasionally. hope he does better today.

Being Captain is killing my game!

Took over the CPA 8-ball team this session and talked all players to play 9 ball on the same night. This is great as all 8 players show up and play each night. The only down side is the captain role has killed my game.

I went from being the top gun last session to only winning one match out of the 7 I have played. I'm to concerned with what is going on with score keeping, and other players where I cant focus on my game.

Cant wait for next session to step down from the captain role and get back to pool.

Did well in my Thursday night league. Any time Mr. Spimp gives me a forum pep-talk, I do well :)

Went to my old stomping grounds and got into some crappy cheap one pocket action. Ended up getting even and he quit. Womp Womp Womp.

my level of play has been all over the scale this past week.

sunday night

won 4-1 8 ball in a 4-4 race
lost 38 - 35 9 ball in a 46-38 race
lost 38 - 42 9 ball in a 46-38 race. ..had a replay since we were shorthanded.

tue night

lost 2-0 8 ball in a 4-2 race:eek:

wed night.

won 4-1 8 ball in a 4-4 race. shoulda been 4-0 but i rattled the 8 one rack and he ran out.
won 46-32 9 ball in a 46-46 race.

looking forward to masters starting back up in 2 weeks. i really think playing masters has helped my game and is one reason i was raised to a 6 in 9 ball recently.

now lets see if i cn get my 8 ball level back up to a 6 where i was for 1 session 2 years ago. cant explain why i was real hot for one session in 8 ball then slid back to a 5.

Played my best 9-ball match in a very long time last night, beat a strong SL7, 16-4.

This is two times in a two week period that I've beaten an SL7. I hope I can get a little consistency and hang on to this level of play...

Do you have a co-captain for the team? If so, then you can split the responsibilities so you can concentrate on your game when its your turn comes up.

This season I was raised from a D+ to C in Individual 9-ball. I'm learning to adjust to me new handicap. In terms of handicaps, I have to give 2 games to a D+, and 3 games to a D in a race to 9. As a D+, I was getting games from 1/2 of the league. Now as a C, I give games as part of my handicap to 2/3rd of the players in the league.

1st match, I give 2 games to a D+, so 2 games on the wire to race of 9. I lose hill-hill 8-9
2nd match with a C, we play even up and I lose 1-9
3rd match with a D+, I give 2 games in a race to 9. I will 9-8 on the hill
4th match with a D, who tells me he's an APA SL5 in in Miami Florida, I lose 2-9.
5th match with a D, I give 3 games on the wire to 9, win 9-8 hill-hill.

In my 4th match, the threads on my playing shaft gives out. So, I end up using a back-up shaft. I can immediately feel and see the difference from an LD shaft to a regular solid shaft.

Had a great night at league last night. APA Double Jeopardy, Kept score for one 8 ball match, kept score for one 9 ball match, coached a couple of times, talked to our bartender, who BTW is drop dead gorgeous, joked with the other team, had some cold beverages on a warm evening, we won both matches, and I made it home by 11. Never even took my cue out of the case.
I think I finally have this league thing figured out

Lost last night to another SL6. We were into the 5th rack before we actually shot a full rack of 9ball. Everything was early combos or 9's on the break. I was getting annoyed and gave up.

APA 9-ball = 1 Win / 5 Losses

IIRC, I...
Lost 6-14 to a SL6
Won 12-8 against a SL5
Lost 6-14 to a SL6
Lost 8-12 to a SL5
Lost 5-15 to a SL7
Lost 6-14 to a SL6

I've been playing terrible in APA 9-ball on the bar table, but I'm damn near undefeated playing in the in-house bar table 8-ball league. I've been playing good outside of league, but just can't get it together on a Wednesday night.

Winning with your B game

Our team has been playing pretty well and have been holding my own but I have not been playing as consistently as I would like. On Monday I met with Scott Lee for a half day session and it was worth every penny. A lot of the things he showed me were not difficult concepts and we all know to do them or not do them but the video does not lie. Even some of the little things I preach to the lower ranked players I was not doing correctly. It will take a while to integrate everything and I was missing some leaves last night because my speed control with the new stroke is not there yet but it will be. This is kind of a shameless plug but if you are looking to create a consistent repeatable stroke, call Scott or another PBIA pro and have someone analyze your swing. As much time and money as we spend on cues, cases, table time and leagues, it makes sense to take that next step and invest in getting better.

Dismount soapbox now.

Won our Wednesday night 9-ball division and our in-house 8-ball league back to back!

Although I played terrible in 9-ball, I'm happy we won!

Was wondering where this thread went.

Wednesday DJ, only played 9 ball and beat another 6 18-2. Shot well, took an easy shot on a 7 ball for granted and messed up my BnR. Oh well. Shot well overall. Our team was up 43-7 after three matches and ended up only winning 53-47. Sucks cause we needed to make up ground in 9. 8 ball we won on the night and are cruising in 1st.

Thursday, I played my first match as a 7 and played a real straight shooting 5 who only had one loss. I won 5-1, but shot crappy. Maybe being a 7 I put a little pressure on him because he shot poorly and missed two 8 balls he should've made. Not happy how I won but I'll take it as I've had a few rolls go against me this session as well.

Last match of my first session last night, playing for first place going into the playoffs. I just went up to a 5 after going 6-1 in matches so far.

Hill-hill, despite horrible play all match, all I need to do is make a simple short straight in shot and draw the cue ball back about 7 inches to get a shot on the eight to win the match - these 3 points will secure first place for my team going into the playoffs - easy peasy.

I take a deep breath, focus on my pre shot routine, get down on the shot and proceed to dig under the cue ball and jump it about 3 feet off the table towards an innocent bar patron and onto the tile floor with a spectacular crash.

So pathetic and embarrassing - no excuses but the equipment is getting into my head, the bar table cueball is HUGE compared to the tiny worn down balls and I can't seem to adjust without getting inside my own head on each shot.
