And then there are the people who get annoyed by people saying his name wrong but don't bother to get it right themselves...

It's a real gem, with this final thought on the subject...

If you're going to try to correct someone, make sure you aren't wrong yourself! ;P

I beat you to it...posted that about a week ago and it may have been the impetus for this thread.

That match, the Dennis/Scott match, and the recent one pocket poll by PJ. The question normally comes up a couple times a year, but we had a bit more impetus this month.

I got a feeling that Wojciech Szewcyk is pleased that some commentators are taking
pains to pronounce player's names correctly......:scratchhead:

My name Book Collector , everyone gets it wrong, it's actually pronounced
Buck Klectar.
I got it because I used to Klect the Buck.

I first knew Alex when he was 15.....we all called him Alex...didn't even know his last name...

.....it was apparent even then that he was a gifted player...so three of us entered him in

the Junior Canadian 9-all Championship when he was 16...

...now I became aware of his last name....started calling him Pagu the Lion....

....seems to have stuck.....and an apt moniker also.

We use to call Alex Mao when he was a kid .I can attest to that...ask him

Yeah, I’m aware of Mao.....he still gets called that sometimes.
...but nobody calls him The Chairman....he’s been keeping other people in their chairs.

In Spain they pronounce LL as J.
As is pollo would be PO JO.

I think that would be more of a south/latin american way of pronouncing it.

Thunder Thighs <----- occasionally mixes 3 languages in a single conversation  :lmao:

Dennis doesn't care!

I saw Dennis talking about the spelling of his last name. He doesn't really care, the checks cash with either spelling!

Countless mistakes were made with people crossing borders.
Semi-literate government agents in Canada and the US forced their own interpretations
on immigrants.....and sometimes it was just bad penmanship.

A pool player from Tahiti was named Guy Cho-SI-Nam...
...I asked him how he got that name.....his father’s full name when he went to Tahiti was
Cho, Si Nam....(family name Cho))...the officials didn’t like that so they made his full name
his family name....and then gave him a French first name....
...so his son inherited the problem.
