Recommended Cleaning / Maintenance for newly Installed Simonis Cloth on a Home table?

A friend of mine just had Diamond come and set up a table for him yesterday with brand new Simonis. As I would be, he’s extremely picky about everything that will touch the surface of his table, and he’s asking me many questions as a Poolroom owner of the room he grew up playing in.

The Diamond installation crew recommended nothing more than a damp microfiber cloth to wipe the table down, and said nothing about using a brush or a vacuum - which are two things I use regularly in here on our tables to keep them clean. In a controlled environment of a home table with minimal usage other than himself, does he even need a brush or vacuum and does either do any harm at all to the surface of the new Simonis cloth?

I’m recommending he use a very clean chalk like magic chalk or Taom Chalk to virtually eliminate chalk marks from appearing on the cloth or even on the cue ball, which he has no problem with in regards to the higher cost of the premium chalk.

I’m just looking for feedback to provide him from those out there who are very particular about anything that touches their home table new Simonis cloth, to keep it maintained as best as possible? - Thanks

The Simonis X1 cleaning tool is fantastic.
It’s a little pricey, but each time I use it I’m glad I bought it.

Very particular on my old table which got new Simonis cloth earlier this year. I would never use a vacuum attachment or mini vacuum on my home table. The X1 tool is amazing and I also use a microfiber cloth and also, because of dog hair, a lint roller comes in handy as well.

Another view:

I vacuum (no brush!) and damp wipe my Simonis 860HR every day before playing. I don't think that much is necessary, but I like it clean.

No negative effects after years of doing this.

Pretty much the same for me, except weekly it gets a damp wipe with Woolite and warm water.

Also ( something that I see way too often) Don't chalk above the table , chalk a step back. Crazy when I see grinders of the chalk holding their cue tips over the table.

I recommend the X-1 as well. I've been using one for five years. I can clean my 9' table in 2 minutes.

I use the X-1 daily and every few weeks or so vacuum the table.

PS Some consider the X-1 expensive but it is -fast- and in light of $25 chalk, $25 tips, and $300-$400-$500 shafts, it's price is easily justifiable.

If the cloth is stretched correctly, using a vacuum with the bristle attachment on it will not have any negative effects.
Hot water at one gallon to one capful of woolite when it needs a wipe down.

Clean the pockets, tracks as far as possible and return area often.

Definitely don't chalk with your bridge hand or over the table!

P.s The X1 is nice and works!

I use a brush only between games to lessen chalk Mark's.

The horse hair vacuum attachment is EXCELLENT for removing the chalk dust
from the cloth. It will do no harm.
Then as recommend above.... hot water, Woolite, and microfiber cloth.
The Vacuum and Woolite only gets
done once every week or two.

Just a FYI, most chalk on the cloth comes from the tip hitting the cue ball, not chalking over the table.

Every stroke, a good bit of the chalk on the tip goes flying off. Then even more gets on there if you follow through into the baize.

I am fairly particular with my table - so here is my recipe.

1) Make sure you cover your table whenever its not being used. [Daily; takes 3 minutes]

2) Use a brushless vacuum, I use a small rechargeable dirt devil [Weekly; takes 5 minutes]
3) Use the X-1 Simonis cleaner after vacuum, which helps keep it from getting as dirty [ Weekly; takes 5 minutes]
4) Use vacuum to pick up any small debris left on the X-1 Simonis cleaner [ Weekly; takes 1 minute]
5) Clean the Simonis cleaner by taking it outside and tapping it to let the chalk fall out [Weekly; takes 2 minutes]
6) Use the vacuum on the cleaner and then clean the vacuum [Weekly; takes 2 minutes]

For the following:
Add chemical directly onto paper towel and avoid getting onto rail cloth

7) Clean the rails with a furniture polish, I use the Orange glow version. [Monthly; takes 3 minutes]
8) Clean the pockets with hand sanitizer, I use Sams club version [Monthly; takes 10; minutes]
9) Clean your pool balls, use the Aramith cloth and cleaner [Monthly; takes 30 minutes by hand]
10) Polish pool balls with microfiber cloth [Monthly; takes 15 minutes]
11) Check table level with Starrit 12" Machinist Level [Monthly; takes 2 minutes]

Following this schedule will take a couple minutes each time you play, 15 mins a week and about an hour and a half a month.
I have never touched the cloth with any chemical, and would rather not use water and woolite.
I am sure it is a feasible way to do a heavy cleaning. I try to avoid that with a good routine and keeping the table covered.
Another reason for cover the table is to prevent sunlight damage; which it will do.

Suggested supplies with links - can be purchased elsewhere, but these would run about $440.

Steve, I appreciate your extremely thorough explanation of how you keep your table clean. I may incorporate some of these suggestions on our 10 foot table in the pool room which I keep covered up which gets minimal play, and I’m sure my friend will likely incorporate a number of your suggestions as well in to his routine on his new table – thanks again!

My pleasure - Simonis is expensive to buy and have installed. Keep chalk (an abrasive by design) out of the cloth helps increase its life and its more fun to play on clean equipment.

Any considered opinions on the product "Quick Clean"?

https://quick-clean.com/
I've used this product occasionally on our tables, but I don't plan on ordering any more after I finish what I have remaining. Although it looks cool to use, honestly I can't say I've noticed it does anything more than wiping down your table with a damp micro-fiber cloth. I guess if a table looked very dirty with dust and chalk marks, you might see an immediate visual improvement in the look of the cloth surface after usage, but for anyone who takes good care of their table to start with, I see little benefit in this product.
