What A Dilemma

Hang in there Brian. We're all pulling for you.

Great to hear you made it through Jay. I would put money on you having had the bug.

I think I'm finishing killing it off myself. On the 10th, I woke up with a sore throat and the very next day I had a mild burning in my chest that I've never experienced before that stayed with me for several days. Throughout the next few days, this burning in my chest would extend throughout my body. It was the strangest thing I've ever experienced. I didn't bother with getting tested I just self isolated because I never had the cough or even a fever but things have finally faded. I'm 44 and this thing was very mild overall but still really strange. Anyway, I know this isn't about me -- but I do think this bug was going around well before our first models predicted -- which would be very good news for all of us.

Again hang in there Brian, even if you somehow caught this thing -- odds are still way in your favor.

People who contract the virus seem to show different symptoms. Not all of them look alike. I never got any headaches and my worst symptom was a cough that came from deep in my chest and came in convulsions that I couldn't control. I literally couldn't speak without starting to cough. I had to whisper to my wife. The sore throat went away in less than a week. The cough and shortness of breath took far longer and only subsided a little bit at a time. I kept thinking I was getting better and another week would go by.

I feel for my buddy Brian. Just hang in there and you will beat it. By the way I'm 75 so a bad candidate for this virus. The only thing I had going for me is that I'm fairly healthy for my age (no smoking, drinking or drugs!) and I have a great wife. :D

thanks to all for the well wishes and suggestions.

and thanks, Dave, for asking.

I woke up today feeling 90% better and had a vg sleep but, unfortunately, chills and weak legs and minor cough are all reappearing.

Still feel it's highly unlikely to be covid 19, the va already called to say my regular flu a & b were neg as well as rsv respiratory virus test. I didn't even know they were checking all those, too.

This chicken is no drama queen but I'll say this - the thought of having to go to a hospital for this (or anything else for that matter) right now is especially unappealing.

But so is sheltering in place with this crap. It doesn't feel like the run of the mill stuff we all have experienced before, def an odd one.

the dilemma continues...

best,
brian kc

Best wishes from West Virginia!

In bold....a lot of hospitals are not testing for covid-19 if they find you have the flu or some other identitied respiratory virus. I've read where more and more hospitals are now beginning to test for covid-19 regardless of positive flu results.

Basically, unless a ventilator is needed due to low oxygen level, a positive covid-19 test result simply means your case gets put into the tracking data. The standard treatment is much the same as flu treatment.

I hope you're feeling better and kick this thing's ass asap.

Stay strong, Brother.

If you haven't, ask your Dr for a referral to the closest ER (if you have TriCare).

Just in case it turns sideways, you'll have that option.

Brian,
How are you doing?
Will Prout

hi Will.

Thank you very much for asking.

I haven been getting the low grade fevers in a number of days but big chills and throat symptoms with minor cough are still nagging. These are all intermittent so I am getting some breaks from it. The best part is that I haven't had symptoms again as severe as the ones I dealt with the one night over a week ago where I was ready to go to the ER.

I get my medical care through the VA and while I understand that we are getting hammered here in CT it seems outrageous to me how my Covid-19 test result is still pending on day 9. The other 3 things they checked were negative.

As I said previously, I'm 99% sure this is not Corona I'm dealing with but it would be nice to have the definitive answer. My doc said it's "sad" that it's taken this long and I agree. There are an awful lot of people out there much worse off than me right now so I'll stay thankful for my comparably better situation.

More concerning to me, my 4yo granddaughter had to get swabbed yesterday because her mom who is a front-line nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hosp in NYC has just tested positive with minor symptoms.

What an unbelievable Twilight Zone episode we're all living.

Thanks again, guys.

Stay safe everyone!

best,
brian kc

Brian,
A lot of us are following your status very closely.
Stay strong, but be sure to go to a facility if things worsen.

I hope you get to feeling better soon and that you will have a better definition of what is causing your illness. 9 days for coronavirus test is ridiculous.

Ivermectin

I just saw ivermectin claimed to be a cure for the coronavirus. Kinda skeptical about that but it will take care of any worms you have!

Thinking about you often. Any test results on the main concern yet? Whatever has you down, I hope it is gone soon!

everybody, thank you again very much for your well wishes. I appreciate it a lot!

Finally, just this afternoon my doc sent me the news that my test was NEG. I figured it would be and happy for the confirmation. He said he was embarrassed that it took 10 days. He is a great doc; the delay sure wasn't his fault.

I'm still having symptoms and tbh I'm okay with putting up with it as long as it don't ramp up too much.

Like I said in my first post, I don't want the dilemma of having to go to the er at this crazy time.

@nine o nine, I saw that one on Steve's mailing - very smart of you to add McConnell's name. :grin-square:

@Hu, yeah, maybe I'll give de-worming a shot. :eek:

thx all and stay safe.

what a horrible next 2 weeks were gonna have.

best,

I'm not happy posting this thread but these are special circumstances and it'll be good to get off my chest.

I've been doing a great job, l think, of isolating myself plus being careful about what and who comes in my house plus I'm limiting any away from home risks very well, too.

Well about 5 days ago I started getting intermittent chills and they would come on like attacks, staying for anywhere from 15 min to an hour or more. Gradually they've been coming more frequently and since I have autoimmune issues triggered by an awful case of neuro Lyme disease, I was writing off this latest round of symptoms to that.

Last night the chills became severe and my legs went weak and rubbery and added to that, I'm now also getting low grade fevers, not exactly a sore throat but some discomfort there, minor cough, and very infrequent nausea. All of this makes me think could it be Corona. Other than taking in my mail (carefully) I did have one buddy, Russian Paul, stop by just over a week ago with some N95 masks for me. I actually limited our contact to talking out my window with him well over 6 ft away and he left the box of masks on my front porch. At that time I wasn't being as careful and so when he left I brought them inside without disinfecting or washing after, so there's that poss exposure. Not trying to over think things but Paul told me this morning that his wife who is a nurse who rotates between 3 local hospitals cared for a couple corona positive patients during the past week and she is now showing symptoms incl fever. Paul said he is starting to get a sore throat himself, so who knows.

Last night during the overnight, I was feeling awful and it got so bad I came close to calling an ambulance twice, but managed to tough it out because being at an ER is the last place I'd want to be now. Today has been better but still not very good.

Called my doc at the VA this morning, he wants to rule out Corona so he emailed me a script for a test. I went to 2 local hospitals who were doing drive in tests, both ran out of kits. Drove 40 miles to another one and got swabbed.

if I had to bet I'd say no it isn't corona but whatever it is I'm not loving it.

So the dilemma:

There couldn't be a worse time to get sick with anything that requires hospital attention, it really becomes gut check time.

hopefully, I'll manage to avoid any hospital visit, and the test will cooperate, too.

Strange times we're in.

best,
brian kc

Wishing the very best for you. I can't imagine the head trips this is putting you through,

My two adult children are under the weather and my youngest grandson is having a terrible time breathing but with no fever they won't test him.

Who would have thought that we would ever live in a world where everyone and everything is potentially deadly?

Hoping for the best for all of you !

Stay safe & kind.

it can be the flu or the corona, both are very similar symptoms.

every time you let someone get within 20 feet of yourself you take a chance. the closer they get the greater the chance.
one mis step and you can die. each need to evaluate their risk tolerance for that.

stay on the safe side. the downside isnt worth the risk.

and those that do have it or get it, best of luck.
