Yeeouch. They are badass. It's a wasp that goes into holes in the ground hunting tarantulas for a living. Stepping on it just made it mad. We had something similar down in Florida. I saw one up close once sitting on a branch. It was bending the branch it was sitting on. Definitely on your don't wanna mess with list.

Yep, that's what stung me. The one that did it wasn't quite that big, but big enough that it scared the crap outta me when I saw it. After using a sting kit, taking a benadryl, gulping down four mugs of cabernet, and leaving my foot in the 47 degree river water until it was practically numb, I was fine.

Anyway, here are a few more photos. Some hikes in side canyons, up creeks, and the Little Colorado River.
