Where do you want to be in 5 years?

Here's a little background on me. I'm 53, I've played pool off & on my entire life. In my 20's, I played a lot. I've always just been an average player. Nothing great, I've always just enjoyed the game. I've also never played in leagues or tournaments. I guess I was what you guys call a "banger?"

A few years back, we moved to Las Vegas, one of my neighbors has a pool table. We'd hang out, drink, shoot a few games. I caught the bug- HARD. These guys are pretty good! There's like 4 or 5 people that hang out and play.

First, I bought my own cue! (Whoa, i'm committing here!) The sense and desire of competing and getting better became a priority. Then I got my own table! Yay! Then I started seriously practicing.

The guys I play with, just play. They never practice, do drills, work on fundamentals, etc. They just play pool. I've been doing all the previously mentioned things and the rewards are 10 fold. I'm easily the best player on the block now.

I was encouraged to join a leauge last year and that's been a lot of fun, I get to play and meet other people that share the same interest!

This is a very abreviated post, basically, what I'm saying is that i've surpassed my initial goal of being the best player in the neighborhood. They all make fun of me and tease me because I'm obsessed with pool. Whatever. I think it's because they always LOSE to me now!

So, now I wanna try tournaments. I know I'll get my ass handed to me. I watch these guys and I just soak it all in. I've just heard that if you're the best player in the room, you're in the wrong room!

So, to sum it up, in 5 years, I wanna be playing in tournaments!

I just really love the game! To me it's physics meets geometry…

I know at my age, I just need a hobby and passion that's not going to kill me like my previous obsession- Downhill Mountain Biking. Yikes! That's dangerous!

I really enjoy this site, I've learned so much…

I'm 43, played when I was younger and during my time in the Air Force then stopped for 20+ years and just picked it back up again 7 months ago.

I'm too old to be anything at pool, but I'd like to play on a streamed table someday in a large tournament.

I wish I never stopped playing :(

In 5 years, I'd like to participate in the Turning Stone Casino Classic while actually standing a decent chance of not getting completely destroyed. If that happens, I'll be more than happy.

Most people say I stand very little chance, if any at all, to get to a level that would let me do that in 5 years. While I understand what they are saying, I still believe I can do it.

See you all at the Turning Stone Casino Classic XXXIV, autumn 2020.

I take it this post is regarding where I want to be in pool in 5 years?

I think making it to the top 100 USA Fargo is possible. Certainly within the top 200. At the very least I'd like to be rated as a Master.

The power of positive thinking. :) Keep it up, don't let the detractors keep you from your goals.

Why wait 5 years? wouldn't hurt to see your results next year vs the following years. The experience factor alone would pay off in my opinion

Try anyway. 5 years is a long time. With a lot of hard work and proper guidance...who knows.
Me....5 years ....I expect to improve. Have no unrealistic goals or expectations. Would like to be exactly where I am now.... The Best In My House. The best in my family:lol:

I'll be 50 soon. Played a lot in my twenties. Was more than a banger. Never liked tournaments though. Couldn't eat trophies. Closest I came to tournament play at the time was when our university champ got her pic in the paper. She held my JOSS in that picture. I still have the clipping. I wasn't on the team but I schooled everybody on it.

Played off and on since then. More off than on. Spent one season in an amateur league about 1999. Hated it. Nothing but bickering about rules and trying to manipulate people's handicap ratings. I am more of a loner.

Play.

Have fun.

If you want to play tournaments then go play them. Now. Why wait? Just get out to the pool hall or bar and find the local tournaments. Sign up. You don't need to be in a league to do that.

Want to be on a team? In a league? Go meet up with some. Go do it.

Personally, I have no great aspirations about my game anymore. Three years ago I put off buying a table. I am back after one now. Sure I'll practice, but I am having fun with collecting old cues. I want to start playing with a repair lathe before long.

You want to get better? Keep up with the practice and the drills and find better players to play. Find somebody to teach you more.

And stick around here. Sure there is a lot of BS, but it's a great community with a common interest.:thumbup::thumbup:

On a beach, wearing a silk Hawaiian shirt and linen pants. Sporting a Miami tan and sipping Mojitos in the moonlight, listening to Bennie Goodman and 80's dance music with family and good friends, I'd like to be a better pool player too. I'd like to be really good, but I'd never choose the life of a touring pro, but I would like to have the option of traveling to an occasional big time tournament and not embarrassing myself but not really being overly disappointed if I don't do well. I'd like to be able to play with the big guns without having them give me too much weight. I think I'd prefer to be a "sponsor" of a top pro, male or female. I want to recognize excellence and invest in it. I'd love to develop my eye for talent. I'll never be a AAA top pro player or anything like that, but I'd love to be involved in big time events and see them through and I'd never want to be thought of the way some of the posters think of (and talk about) some of the event promoters that are mentioned here. I would hope that at the conclusion of my events (since I'm fantasizing here...) there would be a big party where the payouts would be distributed. I'd like everyone to leave feeling good. 5 years? 10 years? something to shoot for, I guess...

Five years would put me at 69 years old. Took 42 years off and have been back not quite two years. I was a good player in my teens. My son took the game up and I took it up again with him. I'm bit as hard as ever. Ran a three pack in 9 ball two months ago. In 5 years I would like to be a threat to run that 3 pack every time I get to the table.

I'd like to be at least an A player by then. I think I can do that in a year or two though I'm improving at a good pace but I may plateau like most who knows. I just want to play against good people and play in tournaments winning some

Better at every thing!

I want to be a better husband, father, grandfather and friend. I want to be in better physical condition, maybe last on the list is, a better pool player!

But, I will be 70 then, so just having a pulse and not wearing diapers will make me happy.
