Rando found music thread... - 09-20-2019, 01:17 PM

So I ran across this gem yesterday (9:06).

It's a cover of Fleetwood Mac's Gold Dust Woman, done by Government Mule (with Warren Hayes, of course) but also featuring Grace Potter (from Mountain Jam VI - Hunter Mountain, NY, 6/4/10).

Warren is playing a 12-string Les Paul (which I didn't know existed!), and Grace Potter is just a killer singer. The keyboard player is using some electronic voice instrument to put in a drone effect.

Moody, etheric, and spectacular.

Keep On Growing, Tedeschi Trucks Band cover of the Derek and the Dominoes tune, featuring Trey Anastasio trading off leads with Derek. (Doyle Bromhall II off to the side on rhythm guitar)

I expected two drummers, but not the horn section.

I went to see a band at a midsize club not too long ago and stumbled upon the opener, Death Grips, whom I had never heard of before.

Not many women could pull off doing a song by Stevie Nicks, but Grace has no problem. You remember "Cortez the Killer" with Joe Satriani and Willy Waldman, the trumpeter, where she plays the Hammond organ? Sounds and looks very different there. She also does a duo with Sheryl Crow (and changes her looks again). Another notable song is "I Shall Be Released", which she plays several different versions of. Grace has also done duets with Mick Jagger and Bob Weir and she has her own band, The Nocturnals. Very talented lady!

She's truly great imo, and I'm surprised I only learned of her as of that Cortez the Killer cover a year or so back. I didn't notice her changing her look since that voice! (sigh!) transfixes me more into listening than looking.

I have been lazy in seeking her out where I know I'll find more from her, but I will amend my ways and get on it now.

Trucks and Haynes are as good as I've seen live.

God bless each and every one of you

Was watching Moonraker the bond film on TCM the other day and it struck me how great the theme song was. John Barry and Hal David wrote this one with the pipes of Shirley Bassey singing.

LOVED IT
The first 4 chords off that 12 string, I knew I was home.

Whoa! What kind of club and where was it? That had to be astonishing, I'd bet.

Funny comment on the thread there: i wonder how much blood Mc Ride has in his drug system.

So, it turns out Howard Stern may be good for something after all! (And after I doubted that for so long, too!)
