We had to take a pass on league this week. Christ, this snow is ridiculous.
Got a foot dumped on us, then a little pause, and now it's coming down again.

When I was kid I'd think nothing of taking ten minutes to rock the car back and forth
out of a snow pit... then flip on the wipers, roll the windows down and up, and head to the pool hall.

Now I take one look out the window and think "ehh **** it."

Played 8-ball this week. I should have won 4-0 but I got careless on an 8-ball shot. Won 4-1. I did not play bad but I was never able to get the hang of the table: fast and had a roll to it.

One of the tables in this place -- NOT the one we played on -- was so out of whack, the cue ball literally made a U-turn. It's rolling towards the foot rail... now it's rolling towards the long rail... now it's rolling back toward the head rail.

Well, karma bit me in the @ss last night...not sure if it was because of a couple comments in this thread or if I farted too much last night or what...but I lost my 8 ball match to a bagging 6 sigh...

The team already qualified for masters so they were dumping to stay the minimum 50% that you need to actually play in masters in June. They all were doing this so in my 8 ball match since I can't go up I did it as well...still was up 4-1 and lost the last three games. The worst part about it was the hippie showed poor sportsmanship the last game (I call him hippie because he had long hair, tie die shirt, and acted like one)...

Hill/hill he broke dry, I ran all the down to my last ball which was a rail shot that I had to draw to get shape for the 8 as he had a couple of balls close by that the cue ball was going to get behind if I just cut it in. I over drew the cue ball and as it started to go behind one of his balls he yelled out loud "slow down cue ball, stop, stop"...I thought that was pretty meh...I missed my kick and he ran out. It was a shtty table, but still my fault for trying to dump as well (to maybe get him to move up). He dumped in our 9 ball match as well to which I won but also dumped to try to make it closer. He was a 6 and probably should have been an 8 when he shoots like he normally does.

yay happy @#$$%&$^ valentines %$&%#^& day.

today was napa league finally after about a 4-5 week layoff. we play laggers choice. for you that don't know it means whoever wins the lag decides what game to play 8,9 or 10 ball. a lot of strategy goes onto choosing what game to play due to possibly various races depending on handicap in each format.

i won the lag and chose 8 ball...being thats the game i am best at. it was a 6-3 race with me going to 3. i won 3-3. cant believe how well i played today. hopefully that carries over to apa tomorrow night.:D

I just started playing in a double jeopardy league of Friday night 3 weeks ago. It has been pretty fun but I don't really enjoy the team im playing on. Either way, we have a solid team for sure.
My first week, I beat a 6 in 9 ball. He threw the match for whatever reason. Then I lost to a 5 in 8 ball. I had to wait forever between matches and just couldn't get back in my groove. Bad rolls, bad Luck, bad match..
Last Friday I played great. I played the same 4 in both 8 and 9 ball. In 8 ball, I won the toss, then has a rackless match, winning all the games. Our team had a clean sweep 5-0.. 9 ball was right after so I was still in my zone. Played very good and won the match fairly easily.
This Friday was horrible. I showed up late because of traffic, didn't have time to warm up and just played bad. We only had 3 people show up so I ended up playing twice in 8 ball. I played a young lady that was a 4 for my first 8 ball game. I had played bad, awful rolls, just couldn't get in the swing of it. I lost 4-1. I played the same lady in 9 ball. It started rough but got in my groove about halfway through and made a strong come back for the win. My second 8 ball match, I played a young girl that was a 2. She played good and I beat myself. She broke dry, I made a solid and missed, then she shot a solid, not realizing I had made one. I wasn't paying attention and her team wasn't either. I told her after she made the ball and she gave me ball in hand. Being a gentleman, I played it where it lay for a bank shot and it bobbled out. I ended up winning the first game. The second, she shot good and I made a few mistakes. Very nice girl and could tell she wanted to learn. I helped her with a bank shot and lost the game. The last game, I missed two shots that was stupid. Not sure what got to me, just misjudged the balls completely and she beat me.
I guess that's what I get for being a nice guy huh? Lol

APA 9b last night, won 14-6, played like crap, but other person was having a worse night. I pocketed the 9b on every rack, had 1 I did a long rail that hung in the pocket, opponent, miscued and followed it in. Guess a win is a win. But not happy with my play at all.
Driving down to watch 2nd day of JAY SWANSON MEMORIAL 9-BALL TOURNAMENT maybe I will be inspired.

I don't know how I am doing. I think I have won more than I have lost. I have figured out that I would rather play a higher handicapped player than myself. I tend to play up or down to their speed and can outrun a higher rated player most of the time.

I had to play a few real low handicapped players that could play safe decent enough to win by a ball in 9 ball. Those are the losses I think about most and it has happened to me three times this season.

i do the same. i think i have more losses to people of equal or lower handicaps than i do higher ones.

i am a 5 and beat a 6 the other night 15-5. i will probably forget about that match long before i forget about losing to a s/l 1 2 months ago in a board qualifier.

Play in 2 ACS leagues. Very good competition in both :)

11-4 record on the 9 foot tables. (5 man team)

17-7 record on the 7 foot tables. (3 man team)

Actually decided to practice more before these two leagues started :)

Man, hope the good "rolls" keep up :embarrassed2:

my work was slow this week due to the weather. hit a few at the house for a couple of days and it really helped in my napa match yesterday. i am a 53 and played an 89 in a 6-3 race and won 3-3.

i got apa double jeapordy tonight and was looking up our team stats on the website while ago.

i may sit out tonight because i have 2 players been on a roll lately and i got to match them 2 up against who i would normally play so they will not win and go up..

we are in 3rd place so we can afford a couple of losses tonight. my form of handicap management.:grin-square:

Had a good match today after finishing our bca playoffs on Thursday with only one win out of 5 racks. Played another 7/9 today. 9b was 75-26 in 17 innings with about 15 safeties between us and I got 3 bnr. 8b went 5-3 over 11 innings, all three losses being to table runs, I think. Overall, we finished 77-23 and 9-4. Pretty sure I'm taking Tuesday off, will play Wednesday and now Thursday is over. A little relaxation before singles regionals next weekend.

APA Match

Played in my Thurday night APA 9-Ball league the other night.. As I mentioned earlier, I just started playing APA for the first time a few weeks ago, and they started me out as a 4 (I guess thats where all unknown male players start out). I was moved up to a 7 for this week, which was expected, so I had to go to (I think) 55 balls. My opponent was a 4, and had to go to 31.

I got waxed.....

He beat me something like 31-46 in I think 10 or 11 innings.... He played really really well, and made balls (with position) from everywhere, and I just didnt.. Like I said, I just started this league, but this guy HAS to be the strongest 4 in the entire league. Cant say enough for how well this gentleman shot..

We played at their place, which used an Aramith green logo ball that I honestly cant remember the last time I played a rack with one of em (the big, heavy one with the magnet in it for the ball return:eek:)... I didnt get there early enough to practice any, and it showed for the first few racks. I was just fighting my cue ball position. BY the time I got used to it, he already was well on his way to his 31...

as i stated here i had no intention of playing tonight. i wound up playing both.

i had every intention of matching my good 4 and weak 5 against their 6 and 7. the 7 did not show. matter of fact they only had 3 players show and we let 2 of them play twice.

their captain who is a 6 and used to be a team mate of mine. he started woofing at me to play him. i did as intended and played my weak 5 against him and sure enough my 5 lost. in 9 ball.

he then woofed at me again when he threw himself in 8 ball and i wanted to throw my 4 instead. when i told him such he mentioned i was scared of him. oh hell no i thought...he ain;t gettin away with that. i played and won 4-2.

he replayed 8 ball and wanted me again and i said no i could not replay when i had all my players and i threw my 4 who lost to him.

he replayed 9 and called me out again. guess he never heard of ...be careful what you wish for... i won 13-7.

good night all in all. i got losses that i wanted out of 2 players i thought were in danger of going up. we still won 9 ball 54-46 and won 8 ball 9-4.

Missouri 8 ball

My team won the Missouri 8 ball team tournament this weekend. We have three sessions a year and this session is generally the biggest. We won $6000 to split amongst our 7 players. One of our guys also won the singles tournament last weekend. Awesome weekend for us.

We had our fall session Best of the Best tournaments this weekend, 8-ball on Sat and 9-ball on Sunday. I didn't qualify for the 8-ball (and I have to work most saturdays, so it doesn't really matter) but I went to the 9-ball, with a buddy from one of my teams.

The way it works here is the top 20 finishers for each division are invited, we have 5 or 6 divisions in the "North" part of the territory. 27 people showed up for it. Double elim, standard races.

I won my first two, against a 2 and a 4, and then drew the only 8 that was in the tourney. Neither of us played like we should, and I ended up losing by 3 points. grrrrr The last three points were right in front of me, and I just dogged it. Sigh.

I then drew another 5, from my division. We always have good matches, he is a tough player. This time I lose by two points, again, they were right there I just didn't close the deal.

My buddy that went with me, however, ran thru the whole tourney undefeated. Very cool for him, he shot well. (Favorable draw, too, but that's how these things go. You play who's in front of you.)

I enjoy being in a league, although I don't know that I enjoy playing in league matches. I've been reading through this thread and I see some of you keep a real close tally of how you're doing in league, I wonder how that effects your game from week to week. I would think it would add to any pressure you might be feeling. Some people thrive under that, others, not so much. To be honest I try not to be concerned with anything but the game/match I'm in presently, and then only with my side of it. I don't usually wanna know the race or my opponents S/L. My captain says go play, and I go, when it's over they let me know and I stop. I figure if I shoot the last ball in I win. I do know that last week I beat a guy that I've never beat before. We usually play pretty even but he always managed to come out on top, this time I shut him out, felt good. I do like those little pins and patches that you get for break and runs and 8 ball breaks, my daughter has a jacket she keeps them on, she thinks they're cool. I don't think my captain trusts me to play in the "nuts matches", I'll have to work on that, but I do know we're in first place on both sides of Double Jeopardy and I have won more than I have lost. That's good, isn't it?
