I agree with you that too much thought about stats and records could have a detrimental effect on some folks. I'm the captain of one team and co captain of another, so I kinda have to have some awareness of our records. If it's not going well though, we don't dwell on it. We are there to have fun first, win second. Usually when we make the first happen, we have a better shot at making the second happen.
I can find my personal records online at the APA site, so I don't have to keep them in my little brain. I usually know what my record is for the current session, though. Again, I try not to dwell on it, but it is a measure of how well I'm doing, and hopefully for improvement. (GASP a league player wanting to improve, say it ain't so!)
