McDermott suggests for any 3/8-10 cue be sent to them for proper fitting when ordering shafts. Wood joints are funny sometimes. Wood expands and contracts due to climate conditions etc... yes not all are exactly the same. Very common scenario, not just with McDermott but just about any great cue maker. 5-16/14 is in fact more consistent when matching up cues to shafts but often provides a harder hit than the wood to wood 3/8-10.

Problem is people like myself are not pool smart. Mcdermott shafts are sold in all kinds of catalogs and an Unknowing buyer buys a shaft for 300 bucks and then is screwed because shaft wont fit on a Mcdermott Butt..They are a production cue, should not be an issue. Maybe just my area but all the people in my pool hall said the buy after market shafts like Predator and Meucci and dont have problems.
