I have been thru some of the old original Brunswick cues made between 1905-1939.

It's amazing how the wraps are still intact. Sure the leather falls apart as you try to remove it. The thick rope falls apart as well if you try to remove it.

Look at how thick the rope was back then compared to todays Linen wraps.

here's a very unusual laid-up one on a Rambow. I saw only one other like this and it was also on another Rambow.

An astute az'er said he thought the material might be what they used on old Ludwig drum sets and a little searching appears to confirm it.

I had a 1918 Brunswick with the original silk grip...short butt, long shaft.
I was the first owner of it outside of the family.
The silk had broke in three places but Ron Katy of Syracues restrung it using using the
original silk. ..I thought it was clever...he just drilled 3 more holes...it looked unbroken.

Cool stuff here. My original finish Palmer Model M from the 2nd catalog isn't even close. Thanks for showing...
