Beautiful woman, dressed well, poised and shooting good pool. What's not to like?

She appears to be comfortable and relaxed. She is WOMAN! and she knows it.

Good video Emily. Keep doing what you are doing and never mind those that you couldn't satisfy if they had a loaf of bread under each arm. :)

Not sure what the point is Rick... are suggesting she plays in her stocking feet while at home? Or are you suggesting she is doing the exact right thing, because she most likely playes in those boots, and thus why she plays in tourney's with them too ?

RJ,

My point is that 'it' starts from the ground up. If she practices in 4 inch heels & plays in 4 inch heels... fine. But if she practices in bare feet, tennis shoes or flater dress shoes then she should play in shoes as close to that as possible & not something that changes the heght of her hip & potentially her waist bend to get the cue where it is during practice which might even change the cue angle if not adressed.

Earl almost forfeited a match because he showed up wearing the 'wrong' shoes & had to go back to his hotel room to change shoes.

When I was playing 4 leagues a week back in the day, I wore city slicker cowboy boots with a nearly 2" heel because many of the bar room tables were high & some had very uneven floors. The extra height gave me more room for my arm to swing from my natural position without having to stand taller. I also wore many types of boots in those days & did most of my playing when wearing boots. I also wore 'tennis' shoes alot, but would not play league wearing tennis shoes.

It's about consistency of posture. I know that tables are all a bit different in height but it is also about knowing that you have prepared as best that you can. If I wear my boots & the table is TOO low, I'm taking my boots off & playing in my socks. I have done that before. Nearly a 2" change offset some by a low table is not that much, But I think 4 inches would be significant.

Also please see my earlier post.

Best Regards,

As far as the clothes are concerned, at first I was thinking that you should wear a more comfortable outfit. But after thinking about it for a minute I realized that there may be a little more to it than that.

When I wear a suit I have a different demeanor than when I am wearing shorts and flip flops. I feel differently about myself. Maybe this is what makes Emily feel right at the table. It's not hurting anyone so why should it be an issue? I would think that better shoes would be ideal for her, but if she is comfortable with it than so be it. It's not really any of our business.

BTW, that first game was brutal at the end. The 1st game jitters suck!

talk about a bunch of NITS. Really, you're pulling rules out from an organization that is stuck in the 1950's. No skirts above the knees ??? Well played. Have you all lost your mind. This is what you nits are nitpicking about, the length of her dress, and the type of shoes she wears....

Give me a break already.... complete foolishness... how old are guys, like a 100 ??

Since "ENGLISH!" took an effort to explain politely his view (obviously coming from a vast amount of knowledge) I feel obliged to do so too.

Nothing in my post suggested either "picking on anyone" or any disrespect to the Player. I simply stated FACTS !!!

Emily is obviously doing her best to become a top sports athlete. And full respect to her for that.
She also requested some advice - even more respect.

Pool is not only potting balls. On top level it is a combination of many little things that must fit perfectly to be able to produce top performance.

If she goes to compete at the World Championships not realizing what all little requirements are (also regarding dress code) it may upset her expected performance.

I doubt very much that, (if any Player at any top event is confronted by the Tournament Director about an inappropriate Dress Code), the argument that Mr "ChicagoRJ" (Drive Hard, Play Fast) thinks of such requirements as foolishness, would be convincing at all.

Athletes come to top events to perform and, at many of them events, are treated like Top World Performers deserve.

But...

They are also supposed to follow certain requirements, no matter what someone's private opinion is.

Only then it all fits in place.

Regards

Emily, thanks for posting the match.
I am glad to see you didn't get too discouraged from some of the rude comments and knockers.

Playing-wise, one thing that stood out is - if you have a magic rack and are allowed to break
from the rail, then you should definitely just do basically a stop shot.
Better yet, draw back about a foot (either straight towards your cue tip or
straight up the table towards the head spot). The wing ball should still always go.

I would avoid spinning to the side rail and back. Your cue ball will be less predictable.
And cutting the head ball seems to result in more clusters, like after the break around 17:30.

The slight draw shot will actually cause the one ball to hit just below the side pocket,
then bounce out, leaving you an easy 1-ball in the side to start the rack.
You seem to have good runout skills so I think if you can give yourself this kind of predictable
1 ball you can string together some racks.

As for the clothes... I almost hate to say it, but I think there's a good reason to reconsider them.
Not because some old fashioned uptight guys think it's improper! Nothing wrong with looking hot.

But every girl I ever met is self conscious if she has to stretch for a shot, wearing a mini.
There will be times when one leg has to go across the table to reach a shot.
If thoughts enter your head like "crap, what if someone's looking up my skirt?" then it can
affect your shot. You really don't want stuff like that distracting you when the time comes
to make an important shot. I would also think keeping balance is harder in heels.

Other than that, all I can say is good shooting, and keep at it.

Yes, i'm sure she needed you to tell her about the "rules" at a world championship....because she would NEVER figure it out.... and just becaues it is a current rule, does not make it any less ridiculous.

My god, it's pool... they are not going to be sipping tea with the Queen...

Almost as silly as "no caps" for men in the IL ACS state tournament... It is fine in all other states for the ACS, but NOT in Illinois..... I mean, at some point are "we" worrying about the wrong things about pool... if someone dares to wear clean ball cap, and the the bill is facing forward, that should be enough for anyone..... or someone's dress is a few inches too high....or wearing high heel boots... wow.. you guys sound like a ton of fun to play pool with ??

What we need in pool is MORE mini skirts and less NITS :)

Emily gets my vote for the best dressed woman in pool.

Thanks for sharing your exciting life and showing us your hopes and dreams coming true.

Much better in this video, that's for sure. I think some more experiences like this Amway tournament, and you'll be a terror back home on the East Coast. OBTW, I like your break...one of the better parts of your game IMHO, you always sank something and had a shot...can't ask for more. You "pin" the CB...that's very hard to learn and kind of rare, actually. Your PSR is solid. At the beginning it looked like you rushed yourself a little when standing over the shot (you just peeked and stepped straight into it)...then later in the match, you gave yourself a little more time (I suppose you probably settled in a little). Great shooting!

I kept looking , but I never could tell ;)!!!

Emily, your game is showing much improvement. Keep at it, girl. Set the bar high and even if you never get "there", you'll still be a damn strong player. Best of luck to you!!!

As silly as it may sound possibly tie your hair back in a pony tail so you aren't distracted constanly moving it? You were messing with it several times throughout the match...not sure if that messes with your game or not, but I think that might be a simple fix.

OH BOY! I just watched the first rack and had to turn it off. How do you go to the Amway Cup in China or whereever it is when you can't make balls that are hanging in the pocket? two chances in that rack where you missed complete hangers that most beginners would make. Unreal.
